ZL1 piece of foam under supercharger...

Now that I have the supercharger off and at Kong getting ported/polished. I can't help be keep staring at this big piece of foam that sits on top of the valley area/under the supercharger. With this being the last planned time I'll have the supercharger off my car:

1) Is the piece of foam needed or server any real function such as sound dampening, or heat shielding?
2) Can it be removed and nothing go in it's place?
3) Do they make a (not really a valley cover) but something that can go in place of the foam for the 2023 ZL1?
3a) My tune has AFM is disabled.

Just looking for opinions and options since the blower is off probably for the last time!

Thanks

I’d guess noise suppression. The DI system is much noisier than port injection and most manufacturers take efforts to tame that noise down.

The purpose of the foam is to dampen the noise of the injectors and HPFP.

You can remove it if you want.

All aftermarket PD style superchargers require removal of the foam.

No worries my friend. I’d take Katech Mike’s advice first too haha!

I used a thermal product under the 2650 before installing it. Surprisingly - the DI, to me, isn't more noticeable, but I'm also the guy that would accept a little more noise (if the only after effect would be noise) for better cooling or bigger blower, etc.

Seems like it would also provide a thermal barrier...?
I wonder if the small air gap would hurt or help heat soak?

Agreed, @Radz28. I used a piece of adhesive backed reflective insulation on the bottom of my old 2.9 and will likely do it again next time I take the 3.0 off for whatever reason. It was thin, had a reflective finish, and left an air gap.

@Socal, a small air gap helps. Air is actually not a great transmitter of heat so a small gap will help. A large portion of the heat transfer is from the direct metal-to-metal contact at the blower-to-head flanges, unfortunately. Is what it is.

Thanks guys! So, I think my plan will be to remove the foam and place a thermal blanket where the foam sits now on top of the valley. I'll make sure to cut the thermal blanket to the exact footprint of the bottom of the foam. Then, add a thermal blanket to the bottom of the supercharger as well. I'm also adding the the Forced Induction Interchillers Supercharger space plates. So this will give a bit more of a gap in my install. One thing that would drive me crazy after doing this. Is if the injectors have a noticeable sounds such as a tick, a manifold/header leak or the sound of noise lifters or valves. I hope I don't do something I end up regretting !

I’m not going to lie, I did laugh, when I read this was the last planned time you’re taking the blower off.
