New Camaro SS to get LS9 Engine? Some say maybe..

In recent months, there has been a great deal of speculation that, assuming GM decides to produce the Chevrolet Camaro, a high-performance model will be offered with a Corvette motor. In fact, GM's Bob Lutz has even acknowledged the possibility of shoehorning the Z06's LS7 engine into the Camaro.

But according to the August issue of GM High-Tech Performance, the automaker could go a step further. The magazine says GM is contemplating putting the supercharged LS9 engine (which has been speculated to be the engine for the upcoming "Blue Devil" Corvette) in a range-topping Camaro SS. Lastly, the magazine reports GM is in the initial stages of prototyping a new "huge" LS-style engine with 8.3 liters of displacement and 900 horsepower. It's unclear if that engine is the LS9, or something entirely different. The source who worked on the engine said, "I don't get parts unless they're actually going to do something with them."

Sounds like they're not only going to build this car, they want to make it a cobra killer. Wouldn't that make it a Mongoose? As one of the GM personnel said in one of the other blogs, GM whould be brain dead NOT to build it.

Seems like the natural move for the car, make it a real pony car, and make it untouchable..

LS9 !? We cant even get word of a V6 version yet :p

Seriously though I'd love to see a Camaro that the competition cant touch. I love this back to the muscle car race going on now between Chevy, Dodge and Ford

thats why they never did anythign really special with the camaro motor in the last style becasue they didnt want it to overpower the vette. but now i dont think they care since mustang has the gt500 they have to have a muscle car with some balls. we all know the z06 can smoke it but there hast obe a comparable muscle car to match or beat it and thats why i think there gonna do something really big with this camaro

While I doubt that Chevy would ever put something in a Camaro that out does a 'Vette, they put the 350 in a Camaro first...

Hey Man Camaro will have no problem beating it. Like the 4th gen they really did not need the SS version because the Z28 beat the cobra i looked at the specs . And the SS just majorly smoked the cobra.

I'd love to see the Z06 motor in the Camaro, but superchargers don't do anything for me. Well, I like the power, but just don't dig the supercharger whine. It drowns out that V8 burble.

Man I can't agree more. I love the sound of a V-8 Rumble. But I also like the sound of a supercharger I like the wine of it. but I still like the rumble better.

Yup, while forced induction is a efficient way of getting more power, NOTHING beats good ole' displacement

I've seen a few vids of the Mustang GT500.......too much supercharger whine :(

I'm sure a Borla exhaust would add a bit of V8 bass back, but I agree, their aint no substitute for cubes
