Two week Christmas Holiday?
Does BG really shut down for 2 weeks for Christmas? When I was in college I think I got off between semesters for the week between Christmas and New Years.
During my working career I was lucky to get off either Christmas OR New Year's Day! I was a police officer so I got paid pretty good for working a holiday, but I've go to laugh at a company that shuts down completely for 2 weeks!! Somebody in the know please enlighten me on the rationale behind this decision. Thank you, I just want my car. |

Haven't heard how long they'll be shut down…but you must've been in college a LONG time ago to only get a week. Now most colleges shut down for a month, between Dec 20-Jan 15.

Seriously
No wonder gm was bankrupt. At some point common sense has to kick in.

What dates does the plant actually close down, anybody? Can you imagine if all the food chains and airlines decided to close for 2 weeks? Zimm, you're one of the lucky ones! |

Ya lucky that I now know where I stand with my vette, but unlucky that I get it just in time for winter to store it :/
There are always people that don't have a choice to work holidays such as police, firemen, health care people and such but I really wouldn't like if we keep pushing the idea of profit and productivity before everything and my future kids don't even know what summer or Christmas holidays are. Bad enough Christmas holidays is probably not an acceptable term anymore lol. |

Most GM plants have a summer and winter 2 week shut down. Minor upgrades, changes, maintenance are done at this time. My company upgrades/re-hoses the paint robots at a plant almost every shut down. No other way to do it effectively, somewhat of a necessary evil.

Winter break is calendar based, usually goes from Christmas Eve through New Years Day. Usually because these days sometimes occur on Sat. or Sun. and adjustments have to be made. That would be about eight-nine days if you are counting weekends.
A December 30 TPW means during the week that begins on Dec. 30, not on Dec. 30. In this case it looks like a build date of January 2 or 3. Laborsmith |

I don't know why everyone keeps telling me it's not actually Dec 30th when I put TPW right beside it lol. I understand what TPW stands for. But ya, I'm not sure when BG returns to work exactly.

The first week day after New Years Day. I am pretty sure December 30 is scheduled to occur before New Years Day.
Laborsmith TPW usually stands for Tentative Production Week and is always stated as a Monday. Few things in the Chevy buld process are certain and this one of the few. Last edited by laborsmith; 12-07-2013 at 07:02 PM. Reason: Clarfication |

Union rules. Less work, more pay. It's the rule. The time is used to send in the non-union maintenance and IT folks to update stuff.

Not actually accurate regarding non-union. I own a union piping company and GM is my biggest customer. Non union contractors are next to non-existent at GM.
