But... as someone else mentioned, with texting, social media...etc... seems everyone shortens everything.

I have family that when they text me and refer to their spouse the type "R" or "D"... (Richard or Dorothy)... now that is truly just lazy. Especially when you type a text and you type the first couple letters the suggested and frequently used words are selectable. If you are truly just that lazy then just use the damb talk to text feature...
same with me, never heard it, and that goes for 'maro' too.

I generally go the other way. I refer to my wife as my “first wife” when introducing her.

Son you’re on an online car forum. Let’s not act like any of us are cool here.

Why do you say Olds instead of Oldsmobile?

It's a made up word on forums so you don't have to type out Convertible. At least I have never heard anyone refer to their Convertible outside this forum as a Vert. But I hear everyone that owns a Corvette outside the forums refer to their car as a Vette.

Go on Google and ask "What is a Vette". Then ask Google "What is a "Vert". One you get the "Shortened name for Corvette" The other you get a vegetation bearing green leaves. As mentioned earlier.. Vert is just being lazy typing on a forum...
Man, do I have some bad news for you about, well. . . ALL words.

Olds is cool. The V word is not.

"Vert" just doesn't sound very flattering or complimentary. Shortened proper names like Olds and Vette have passed the test of time and have no negative or cheap connotation.

"Why'd you buy a 'vert?" (Sounds somewhat pejorative)...

"Why'd you buy a convertible?" (A little more positive and complimentary). Rag-top, drop top, and others seem to be simply a little more whimsical and good-natured and roll off the tongue easier...

When pressed for space, like on one's Avatar, if the owner is ok with 'vert, it's his call.

Just a thought....
