What a beautiful car though!
At some point there has to be diminishing returns I would think. This thing is going to have plenty of power to pull a little lower RPM's out of a corner with a wider spread. My guess is that GM tested both and found little if no reason to run the 10AT at the limits and maybe it was actually less suited (less reliable) for heavy track use which I think a good amount of these purchased will be used for.

ILE package is always traditionally offered in manual transmission only.

I think they're only offering the manual to keep the price down and possibly to deter less track oriented owners from buying a car that really isn't a daily driver considering the tires and extra stiffness of the suspension. On the other hand; those in the know will be salivating over this option once the reviews start coming in.

It's like Bad@ssCamaro said, the 1LE package is traditionally only offered in Manual. They could have easily offered this with the A10, but then it would not have been a 1LE. Al O and the Camaro team have proven that they feel very strongly about the 1LE package being manual only.

It's also worth remembering...the ZL1 1LE weighs 124 lbs lighter than an automatic ZL1.

That is significant, and will surely result (coupled with the crazy-wide, grippy tires and aero) in increased performance beyond what is worth the added weight of the automatic.

I think there were several factors in the choice:
  • Maximum weight reduction without compromising interior comfort.
  • Less heat generated (not a problem, as we've seen...but still a factor).
  • 1LE "track car" appeal.
  • Simplified production combinations.
  • Lower cost ($2395 less, when including the gas guzzler tax).

^^^ All very good points especially on the weight difference. The fact they got the curb weight (which btw includes a full tank of gas) even lower is impressive. If my math is right; 60-3,886 (M6 car weight) = 3,826-lbs for the ZL1/1LE model. Subtract 57-lbs for a 1/2 tank of gas and you get 3,769-lbs. Wow, that's impressive for a factory super charged car. I know it's a road course car, but I would love to see someone throw some drag radials on this thing to see how it runs at the drag strip.

Definitely!

The best part of the weight reduction is it's all in rotating and unsprung mass...wheels, tires, dampers...it will make for lightning-quick responsiveness to directional inputs, braking, and acceleration.

And they specifically list ZL1 1LE as 3820 (those 6 pounds help! )

Wake me up when they offer the A10 with the 1LE package in either the SS or ZL1 trim.

650hp/tq in a lighter lower stiffer package than my car with massive sticky rubber and extreme track aero.

My lease is up in 11 months.....
