Proud new owner of 2015 ZL1
Got a ZL1 yesterday! Black with 6 speed manual. I can't wait to get this car to run as well as my 69 Camaro I had to sell in order to get this one. Glad to be here.
What are the absolute must have mods to start with? |

Welcome to the Forum! well I dont have a ZL1 but many people will suggest a Cold Air Intake from either CAI or RotoFab first

Congrats!! You will love the car. CAI first but that is about all you can do to keep your warranty intact.

I just got mine 2 months ago and I already have an appointment with my local tuner to get ARH Long Tube Headers w/ High Flow Cats, a RotoFab CAI and a 91 octane tune.
That will get me some power maybe (50-60rwhp?), but I did it to drop weight and add sound! Plus I tell myself that if I stop there, I still have some hope at getting warranty coverage if any manufacturer defects occur with the engine... Hopefully I'll never know.

Oh yeah, fuse pull -- first thing I did once I got her home.

Welcome to the club!
As stated above, the go to first mods on the ZL1 are: Cold Air Inductions cold air intake or Rotofab Intake, fuse pull after a couple tanks of gas (to ensure any lower octane fuel is gone), and after that the sky is the limit depending upon how much you care about your warranty! |

I am not worried about the warranty and I do all of my own work. I started reading on here a couple of weeks ago and remember skimming over things about separating clutch reservoir from brake and a steel insert into the throw out bearing. I am wondering about that type of stuff and if anyone here regards these things necessary or are they just a good idea when you eventually find yourself working on these parts of the car?
One piece driveshaft and lighter flywheel as significant of an improvement as on other cars? |

Maybe for starters, I should focus on mods that reduce weight more than boosting hp? Has anyone done a breakdown on parts the reduce weight and how much they can accumulate?

Congrats.
Just follow the mods in my signature below to avoid killing your warranty. Unless you want to forget warranty and just blow it out to 700+ rwhp.

If your car doesn't have them yet order the front fender rock guards before you sling a rock up the side of your car...around 30.00 on amazon but probably available on this site
1. Fuse pull mod for a much better sound = Free http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...wild+fuse+pull 2. Intake CAI or Rotofab I personally like the look of the CAI but can't go wrong with either 3. Vmax ported throttle body..I got mine from Tampa Tuning...I don't care what anybody says this mod makes a huge difference. (tampa tuning) 4. Pully Change either 5% or 10% lower crank...No tune needed but with the 10% you have to run 96 or higher octane when your really playing around and the track. With a tune you won't need the octane boost. JRE Jannetty Racing.com 5. Free boost mod...this is also FREE but it's use fullness is still unknown by some. My car went from 9psi to 10.5. I used my aeroforce gauges to read it off of. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ight=boost+mod 6. Aeroforce gauge setup...they are unbelievably awesome also get to see the parameters that you need to see (dynosteve) |

Do a pulley upgrade and tune to get the most bang for your buck for hp. Of course CAI like a rotofab is a great mod. Leave the driveshaft alone as the stock one is very good and a replacement made of exotic material like carbon fiber is expensive. Save that money and buy headers or another hp mod. The stock reservoir is a combo unit for the brakes and clutch. I would leave it alone and just keep the fluid clean but many separate the unit to a separate reservoir. Don't worry about the throwout bearing steel insert either. Get an intercooler reservoir to increase capacity for that system and it is much easier to fill and purge air. Lingenfelter or D3 make good ones.
