Goodbye '18 Z06 ..Hello '16 Camaro SS Convertible

I recently sold my '18 Corvette Z06 with 2020 miles on it and bought a used '16 Camaro SS Convertible (5550 miles). With 6 months of Winter storage, mortgage type car payments and high insurance premiums it made little sense to keep the Z06. Sometimes you have to do the sensible thing! The Camaro SS Convertible has mag ride and a 6 speed manual so should still be a lot of fun without breaking the bank.

I was deciding between the Camaro SS and base Corvette with Arctic white on the exterior and red on the interior. I still think about the Corvette, but I love the manual 6spd in the Camaro over the 7spd in the Corvette, the seats are more comfortable in the Camaro and not as narrow, and if "needed" has a back seat for that rare occasion.

Wow, hopefully you did not get killed with depreciation on the Vette- driving it off the lot and selling it......Things changing in my life I am forced to downsize and get rid of two cars and get a commuter car. I'm keeping my RS- main reason is due to depreciation- it stickered over 40K, I paid 34.5, it's now worth 20K on a trade in. So it will become my weekend driver while my long distance commuter will need to be something more economical. i also love the RS but depreciation I need to keep it awhile.

I did not trade the Z06 in....I sold it back to the dealership I bought it from. I actually got $311 less than what I owed on it ($68,000). Not bad considering the discounted price I originally paid for it with no money down.

Would be hard for me to give up a ZO6, but I totally get it. I couldn't sensibly afford a ZO6 anyway otherwise I would have bought one. I was considering a Grand Sport but again, weighed the pros and cons including price and ended up with a 2018 1LE and I couldn't be happier. Plus, I can take my kid and wife on drives thanks to the rear seat. Not my daily driver, but a bit more practical when needed.

That buyers remorse must have been serious when that first payment showed up. Ouch!

Seriously, it's a good feeling to reduce/eliminate debt! You could have bought 2 Camaros for what that ZO6 costs! You'll have more fun with the Camaro since you can worry less about the big payments and bank note for sure. ;-)

Curious how selling back to a dealer isn't the same as trading it in? Don't they pay the same as trade in value?

Both are nice cars. Graveyard makes a good back ground for the Z06

Couldn’t do it but glad it worked out for you. My wife jokes about my z06 payment every month ( she calls it the condo on the beach payment). It’s a 2015 with 4800 miles and it will be paid off in February so I can welcome it’s little brother a zl1 1le which will be our new condo payment.
As long as you’re happy and you have health nothing else matters

Trade in value is usually the same as a dealer buying it back. The dealer that had the Camaro was not the same dealer who I bought the Corvette from.
The Chevy dealer that had the Camaro was several thousands of dollars off vs.selling it back to the dealer I purchased the Corvette from. Would of been nice if the dealer who had the Camaro put the same money in the car, so I would not have had to pay sales tax on the Camaro. Still, did good on the sales price on the Camaro and a very good figure on the Z06.

I am sure I will miss the 650 HP and 650 lbs. ft. of torque. Cause on the LT4 all that torque comes way down low! But......I won't miss the huge payment every month, especially in the Winter as it sleeps for 6 months. The Camaro SS Vert payment is less than half of the Z06.

To me your financial house should always come before toys. You still have a very cool that is probably more usable and gives you some breathing room. Congratulations

There are a ton a people driving very expensive cars and trucks around now a days that really cant afford them, and Im not talking about being able to make payments. With banks doing 10 year loans on cars these days, people are buys cars they shouldn't be just because they can make the payments. If you have to take a loan out for more than 48 months on a car you can't afford it.

Awesome looking Camaro.
