All of today's cars, including the Mustang and 'vette, pass strict emissions standards and are quite environmentally friendly. The hybrid technology is very, very expensive and is not yet conclusively more fuel efficient than regular gasoline cars. For example, a hybrid Honda Civic is not that much more fuel efficient than the regular gasoline version. But the hybrid version is quite a bit more expensive. Time will tell on these technologies. But I think there will always be a craving and demand for high horsepower cars, especially now since the technology for building them is so much better. |

Well, it would seem the 4.8 would get better milage because it has less displacement, but with the bigger tires and all it is pretty under powered. Eitherway it is a hog at the pump.

LS3 and other engines/transmissions
Ok, I've been hearing everywhere the probable engine that will be put into the Camaro is the LS3. I don't know how true it is, nor do I care.
But I did find this site through GM.com that lists spec sheets, power plots, and general descriptions of every engine and transmission in the generals stable. THE LS3 IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CAR VERSION OF THE L92 TRUCK ENGINE so have fun fun reading up!!! http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en...ars/index.html |

I took a look through the build sheets on different engines and didn't come across either the LS3 or the L92 engines. It went from the LS4 to the LS2 and then the LS7 at the bottom of the page. Any where I missed?

I figured the 403HP advertised had to be under rated. That sheet has it at 417 hp.
By comparison, the L76 (The Truck version of the LS2) is rated at 366 hp. We all know the LS2 was rated at 400hp: a 44hp difference. Translate that to the L92/LS3..... This puppy is going to blow away all expectations! If this thing is released later in April with only 425hp, then they severely restricted it to keep the hp gap close between the LS2. 450hp is very possible here! |

VVT, and Cyllinder deactivation, and direct injection...and a whole host of other things they could improve by 2009.....oh, yeah, and <425 hp.......this is promising: over 400 hp at at least 30 mpg

Is that enough excitement?! I would never have believed that we would see over 400 HP and ~30mpg. Now for the car to just begin production! |
