How does a Courtesy Delivery work, and how much does it cost?

How does a Courtesy Delivery work, and how much does it cost? Please answer this question only if you know the facts, don't just take a guess. Feel free to discuss though, as always - and thanks ahead of time. .

To quote Becky:
As for the logistics: The car is ordered from the factory and can be directed to a local dealer for you to pick up. This is called a courtesy delivery. You still buy and pay me for the car, but you'd pick it up locally. The dealer who receives the car will charge a fee to receive the car, prep, clean and usually handle the paperwork to license and title the vehicle. Typically a courtesy delivery charge is $300 or so, but dealers are free to charge whatever, and may dealers won't handle them at all. You can of course pick up the car here and drive it back. That would save the courtesy delivery fee, but you may spend that in transporation to get here, just depends. While the car is intransit to the dealer, you and I would transact paperwork and pay for the car. Tax and registration can be included in the financing, and we can handle that here, or with your local lending institution. |

Thanks, IOMZL1, you rock. I thought Becky had answered that before, but I had no idea when or where. You must have either a great memory or skillz with the search function - or both. I didn't want to bug her again, she already answered two questions for me, and she isn't even selling me anything. Becky, we you. .

A dealer near me performs a lot of courtesy deliveries and charges $300 per delivery. However, many dealers are not willing to perform courtesy deliveries, so it is wise to check with you local dealers before you order your vehicle, so you won't have any unpleasant surprises when you are actually trying to take delivery of your vehicle.

It's just like the DOC fee's!
Well.......... it's the way the local dealer gets their "DOC" (documentary) fees to pay for administrative overhead. It's not pure profit. So, don't be mad about it!
"What's up doc?" Oh, about $299 - $499. |

I've been thinking about this option too. So basically for $300 over sticker u could get a ZL1 secured and delivered anywhere in the country? Thats not a bad deal IMHO.

If it turns out that a courtesy delivery is not possible, one can always hire a private enclosed transport company to deliver the vehicle from the selling dealer. It's more expensive than a courtesy delivery, but it saves putting a lot of unnecessary miles on the vehicle if one's selling dealership is a significant distance from one's home.

I just got off the phone with the manager at my local dealership in Irvine who handles all Fleet & Courtesy Deliveries...he immediately guessed what vehicle I wanted delivered ...anyway, it's $400 with them.
If anybody knows any good dealerships in SoCal that handle courtesy deliveries let me know...I'd like to get the cheapest price possible since it's an added fee above MSRP. |
