Moving to the UK, lakenheath area

Gents,

I am moving to the UK soon an will be living around lakenheath. Im bringing my 2SS 2010 Camaro. My question is, when i get the MOT done is there any noise restrictions i should be mindful of? I just bought some headers, and high flow cats. I also have a borla catback on currently. Will my car be to loud for the UK?

Also, the car is forsale if anyone is interested once i get to the UK.

Thanks!

Greg

I'm not sure there is one...
I'm sure your colleagues at LakenHeath will help point you to a helpful MOT testing garage.

Hi there. There is no specific decibel level for our MOT test. Whether a car fails or not is down to the discretion of the tester. The test is carried out at idle, and fast idle, and if your car rattles the ceiling of the garage, indicating that it may annoy someone, you are heading for a fail. I've found that a lot of testers are car nuts, who enjoy something a bit different, like our Camaros, and are fairly lenient.....as long as you don't appear to be a baseball cap wearing dickhead, who's going to blow their neighbours ears off every morning. All the best, and welcome to England.

I always thought it was 100db - I'm getting that from Ed China on Wheeler Dealers, but mine is way more than that and I've never had an issue.

Well i have long tube headers, high flow cats, and a borla atak catback. Headers not on yet, just collecting dust due to me debating on what to do.... Guess i could always put the stock exhaust back on it...

It's a difficult one. I've looked on some other forums as well and they all say there is no official noise level, it's down to the personal view of the person testing the vehicle. On the MoT guide it says that if the tester considers the exhaust sound to be significantly louder than other cars of that type then they can fail it. Most people in the UK would consider that a muscle car should be loud, so as long as you don't rattle the spanners off the wall you should be fine.

Mine is a cat back Magnaflow 4" bore X pipe (I'm not an exhaust connoisseur so don't know much more than that); it's passed 2 MoT's with no mention of noise.

The initial SVA is probably the hardest test to pass but I would just leave on what you have - worse case scenario you have to put the stock one back on so put it in the shipping container with everything else.

Lol. Surely Tom's is second? I'm happy with a bronze medal

Damian is right, the IVA test will be the difficult one. I personally wouldn't put the headers on until after that. There are plenty of 'friendly' MOT centres about so don't worry about afterwards. I'll find out in September when my first MOT is due :-/

When you get to Lakenheath, go see Gary at the auto hobby shop he can hook you up with the lighting mod and the MOT test instructions - don't worry about the sound. My bitch is loud. Cammed tuned 1 7/8" LT's with corsa exhaust. I will be buying the neighbors wine for sure....

Here is mine before the new wheels ans suspension:

Dan,

I was warned to stay away from auto hobby on the light converison, i was told he would charge 700 for the light conversion, when you can do it yourself?

Let me know what you think about that? Also, where can i find the info on the camaro light conversion for the UK? What could really be that different?

Thanks for your help, lookin forward to living in the UK an meeting up with you all.

Greg
