I waited much longer than that to get the thing in the first place. I can do six months!

I was in a similar situation a while back, tricky spot to be in but here's my take. It depends on whether you are confident the powertrain and all the other critical components are ok and you won't have major issues down the line. If yes, and you want to avoid your car getting totaled, it matter a lot which shop you take your car to. If you take it to the dealership, they are generally more expensive and they will quote high and you risk insurance totaling it. If you take it the an independent and tell them you want to avoid it getting totaled by insurance they might work with you on the repairs, but of course, you have to make sure it's a reputable shop that does good work.

I ended up going with a small independent shop that has worked on my car numerous times and I trusted them. We had to make sacrifices, patching certain non-important items up with "hack" fixes but it kept my quote low and my car not totaled.

Sad to hear about your car, but as much as we love our cars, they're replaceable. What really matters is you weren't injured or worse. A couple months back two people were killed near me after a pickup truck hit a dear, causing the driver to swerve into an oncoming truck, killing both drivers. I drove by shorty after they cleared the accident scene and the dead deer was still lying on the side of the road, it was eerie seeing that little deer lying there knowing an hour before it caused two people to lose their lives.

When I taught my children to drive I drove home the point of never ever taking your car off road to miss an animal. In high school a lifted truck swerved to miss a deer and hit a tree and killed the driver, my mother swerved to miss a cat and put the car upside down in a ditch. People need to realize hitting an animal head on 99.9999% of the time will not cause you injury but trying to avoid the contact most likely will. My father in law took a moose head on in a 2500 GMC and did massive damage to the truck but they walked away and in fact drove home. I know the first instinct is to avoid the contact but please don't it's not worth losing your life.

Update! Claims adjuster just called and they’re deeming it repairable! No damage to the suspension or frame that he can see. No fluid loss and the car started right up and sounded great. Now she goes to my local Chevy dealer with a well known body shop.

Man, I needed that news. I am so freakin impressed with this car.

Nice, hopefully they'll have it done right and you should be back on the road soon

That is fantastic news.... sounds like the bulk of the damage was simply the bumper/fenders and hood. Obviously the airbags.....
