Does anybody know how to disable Onstar without sacrificing anything else on the gen 6? Or at least not allow it to send data?

This is something I intend to do as well. I do not want OnStar activated in my car, even for the free trial. If it was up to me I'd have my car built without it completely. I have a nice iPhone 6 Plus that interfaces with the infotainment center and will run the GPS through it. I don't need another telephone line. I don't need a concierge to tell me where the nearest Cantonese/Mandarin restaurant is. And I most certainly do not want or need someone having the capability to track the dynamics of my car in real time.

As for the remote shut down if someone steals it, I am buying a stick. That is probably the biggest theft deterrent on the planet.

So, I would suggest trying to look for the OnStar fuse first to see if it's fused separately from everything else. Next would be to find the OnStar receiver module and unplug it. That could be anywhere: in the trunk behind the linings, in the dash behind the glovebox or infotainment center, in the passenger kick panel, under the back seat..... the engineers are tricky when hiding this stuff.

I agree. Apparently you can call and request to "turn off two-way connection" as per a statement by Joanne Finnom, VP of subscriber services. I don't need anyone knowing how many times I plug in the seat belt, where I go, and/or how fast I am going. It would be too bad if the navigation was linked through Onstar. I have the 4s and paid $500 for the nav upgrade.

I read that it disables onstar from communicating with your car. Will any code reader work for this? Also, will this affect the navigation if it is connected to Onstar?

I would imagine any code reader would work, and having the UG plugged in does not affect my BringGo navigation.

Unfortunately, manual transmission Camaros, especially manual transmission V8's are very popular with thieves right now.

Hopefully GM learned something with how easy the 5th gen is to steal and made changes to the 6th gen.

The 5th gen had a physical key correct? I have read that cars are more difficult to steal with the push button/proximity key combo.

You can't disable the Onstar, it's too tightly integrated into how your vehicle functions.

In the Gen 5, you drop your glove box by pressing in the sides so the retaining tabs let it drop, and behind the glove box resides your OnStar unit.
You can disconnect the Onstar Antennas.
You cannot shut off your OnStar unit. I don't know what the symptoms will be with the Gen6 yet, but with the 5, bad stuff happened.

Don't want OnStar? Then tell GM you want the service cancelled. It really is that simple folks. GM has far better things to do with its time, money, and resources than secretly monitoring tens of millions of cars.

I don't believe they sit there and watch you 24/7, but I can certainly see where you may be putting your car through it's paces and the accelerometer senses some serious G's and calls OnStar to report something even if you did absolute zero damage to your car.
