Something like this was bound to happen sooner or later....We need to get serious about all this cyber-security for all personal, business, and national defensive purposes...

Hopefully we can as a country finally make this cyber-hacking a priority and get it stopped before it does something worse than prevent the release of a movie....

It's the lawyers. Not just the Sony lawyers, but the movie chains, insurance companies etc... They want the liability risk mitigated.

Chains wont run it for fear of being hacked and having their company turned upside down publicly.

Online services aren't likely to offer it either - same concern.

Then report "Oh, yeah well those drones are automated, and they got hacked..."

Very sad for American freedoms and our way of life. If you don't like the movie fine don't see it but NOBODY has the right to threaten you with death over exercising your 1st amendment rights and dictate what you can and cannot see or say. Especially a crazy, inbreed, foreign communist dictator. Who I might add has shown propaganda videos of North Korea destroying the U.S. I don't blame Sony as much as I blame the theaters. All the major theater chains refused to release it so Sony was in a lose lose situation. Sony does have some blame though as they should have said that the movie is postponed until they can figure out the best way to release it due to the theaters refusal.

Make no mistake that this is a situation where the demands of terrorist were met. It might not have been the U.S. Government that did it but it is still very Un American. This will now spiral out of control. There will now be terrorist threats against American companies on a regular basis. I don't think people realize the implacations this will have on our freedoms and way of life. There is already another picture that portrayed North Korea cancelled over this. If any news, art, movies Ect are censored because of this then we have lost so much more than a stupid comedy. Not to mention what could happen to other businesses. What if ISIS made a statement saying that if Wal-Mart didnt do this or that they would start blowing them up. Fear shouldn't dictate our way of life.

The U.S. Government needs to take action against North Korea. Something that will send a clear message that your not going to infringe on our freedoms and way of life. We will not be bullied and if you try you will be sorry. They also need to somehow protect businesses from the fear of getting sued if something like this happens again. Everyone should be able to express freedom of speech in this country without fear. This whole situation is deeply disturbing for the future of this country.

I agree with everything you said Vader. The other issue at hand is that political correctness has now started to run our country. I no longer see the US as a super power. Sure, we have the best military and gadgets out there. But we as a society are so God damn worried about how others will view us, it prohibits us from being us. So instead of thowing a nice F-U their way, we go ahead and cater to their demands because "we dont want no trouble."

Now I completely understand the preemptive pull of the movie because they threatened violence. But instead of cowering everytime someone is mean to us, we give them a glance at couple fully loaded bombers and tell them, "your move".

North Korea has dirt on everyone @ Sony, you think they are not going to use it for years? Not like they nuked the data after they pulled the film. Sony screwed the pooch on this one. Every other large business in the world better reevaluate their security measures, including governments with infrastructures like dams, nuclear reactors, air port guidance, banks ... New age of war.

I know this was upsetting, hell I was upset but I think a crucial element is being missing here.

Sony Pictures was hacked earlier this week by a Korean group, I can't remember the name (some psuedo-anonymous bullshit) but reportedly they stole a great deal of very personal information, including employee payrolls, SSNs, and work schedules among other things.

The group issued a list of demands to prevent the release of a "Christmas gift". One of those demands were that the movie be pulled. I think this was less about America and more about protecting its' employees. Was it dumb? Sure you can argue that Sony should have better defenses to combat threats like this, but anyone who's worked in the IT or security field can attest that it isn't a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

What if the CIA already had a strategy in place to get Dennis Rodman to do just that? Then the CIA hears about this movie, and they are like "Shut Up! You are going to blow our operation!"
