Question Is it supposed to do it?

Several days ago, I had to honk the horn at someone who was about to pull out in front of me. When I pressed it, the radio immediately went to mute mode.

Then a couple of days, I had to honk the horn at someone else who almost backed into my car. I was on a call using Bluetooth at the time & when the horn was pressed, it immediately disconnected the call.

I searched the forum, but couldn't find something related to this issue.

Hmmm did the radio turn off at all? Not mute but just shut off and then back on.

It simply went to mute, because I pressed the button on the steering wheel & it played again.

Actually, when I get out of work I'm gonna look for an asshole driver at which I can honk.

Just a thought, but did you hit the mute button when going for the horn? It is the same button as the hang up button I believe. Just a thought.....

Good point. I'm 99% sure I didn't, but we'll see what happens when I attempt to recreate the issue today.

A few years ago, I was curious to know if the air horn on my big rig could exhaust all of its air--- while the rig was running--- if I were to just keeping it going for an extended period of time. I did it running across the high plains of northern Nevada late one night, far, far, far from any human beings who might get bugged at such a stunt. 20 minutes of air horn could get a trucker shot in some places.

I recommend that you go out of town to try it, if you are going to give it a solid test. You can probably get away with a couple of short honks, but in order to go all MythBuster on this question, you should head for BFE.

(In case you were on the edge of your seat: Nope, the rig never came close to depleting the air horn pressure... that thing would still be going all the way through Donner Pass and into Sac if I let it...)

Same thing happened to me and also to another member here, although we both also slammed on our brakes at the same time, so one of those two (if not both) caused the radio to mute. I think that's a security feature; if you have to use your horn and/or brakes, you don't need the distraction of music playing, so it mutes. I can't see the use in disconnecting a phone call though unless that's unavoidable because of the way it's wired.

Your information is enlightening. The first time, I had to immediately press the brake & the second time, I was stopped & my foot was pressing the brake.

Hitting some other steering wheel button in his haste to getting the horn to blow was my thought exactly.

Been there a couple of times, sort of, in my wife's Subie (instead of the radio going silent, a disembodied voice started speaking at me about something I couldn't have cared less about then or care at all about now).

It's probably tired from you always honking at everyone. Have you started yelling at kids yet to get off your grass? :-) Hope you figure it out soon.

Probably accidently hit the mute button on your wheel when you hit the horn.
