Yet another ZL1 Catch Can installation post

This was my 2nd attempt. The 1st attempt involved a handrail bracket and was OK, but I wanted to used the bracket supplied by Elite Engineering, so...

I have a Rotofab CAI which leaves a big open space formerly occupied by the OEM Air Box, so I decided to make good use it by putting my EE CC there.
I found that I had some scrap 1.5 x 2.5 aluminum angle which fit the bill nicely. I drilled a 5/16 hole about the middle of the short side of the angle,
and hung the angle, long side down, on the unused threaded post that former secured the aforementioned OEM Air Box. I put the EE CC bracket on the long side of the angle and made a few marks on the angle where I wanted the bracket to mount to. I drilled a 3/8 hole at the bottom and another near the top. I found some miscellaneous nuts, bolts and washers and secured the bracket to the long side of the angle then bolted the assembly to the threaded post using the old air box mounting nut.
The CC was bolted to the bracket using the supplied 10-32 screws.

I purchased 7' of fuel line since the CC is on the opposite side.
Taking off the OEM PCV tube was a minor challenge, but putting the fuel line on with the EE CC supplied spring clamps was a major challenge since I don't have a spring clamp pliers. My HF extra long needle nose pliers were put to use but necessitated a string of profanities and several attempts in order to get the clamps and hoses on properly. The hoses were routed through the maze of wires, hoses and bric-a-brac and were placed and secured to their proper fittings on the CC per the instructions supplied by EE.

Nice install, what is the angle piece on the RF connector?

I just cuss and use the Braille method I think that's how it is spelled you put the ground where I put my ground.

My hood on the roto fab side is a little high, I may have to grind the roto fab down a bit.

Ricamaro,

How are the hoses routed under the red LSA cover?? (Are there any tie wraps/fasteners under there or do hoses just run loose over the S/C....)
Looks as if there's just enough room for the two hoses under there.

Great job on the install! Does EE's can have the check valves like the RX can has?

I just snaked them through. I don't think a photo will show much since there is so much stuff in the way. I'm not too enamored with the big loop needed to reverse the direction of the hoses, but I'm not sure if I want clean it up with 90* elbow fittings.

Do not need check valve on a ZL1, you can put a inline one if you wanted. The PCV valve is a check valve. If you go to the intake manifold with a SC then you would need 3 lines and check valves. ZL1 has a cool set up inside the SC that keeps it so always vacuum and no back flow. There is no check valve on the small hose you remove, so no check valve is needed. It will not hurt to install one but would not help.

GM has the two lines from each valve cover that goes to the elbow for the clean air, then the small hose under the blower snout coming from the dirty valley pan side and up to before the SC blades and after the TB.

One other way to run a catch can is, go to the intake manifold after the blower then under boost you would need a check valve to re route to the 3rd line that goes after or before the TB. Then you need 2 check valves and 3 line CC.

Is there anyway you could remove the top engine cover and take a pic to see how the hoses go. I have an elite can from my LS3 and would like to use it on the ZL1 if possible

I just snaked them through convenient gaps. I'm not sure if a photo
would clearly show the routing since there is so much stuff in the way.

Here is the photo you want, also if you put the CC in a cool place it will condense better.
