Didn't mean to throw you under the bus, you ask a legitimate question and you are right for trying to balance this decision with your preferences. I guess my talking point should have been.......I have a problem with all the Vette fans piling on and saying there should be no decision at all on your part ........that any Vette is that much a superior vehicle...........its not, and I feel qualified to make that statement, having owned many Corvettes. Both are legitimate cars that we are fortunate to be able to choose from in this day and age. If your decision was between a 2 y.o. Z06 and a new Camaro, I'd say go for the Vette all ways to Sunday. But one of the base Vette coupes that is being fire saled with little on them vs. a maxed out 2SS/RS, I like the Camaro.....thats just me. There are some that say.......you'd still have a Vette, but in the back of your mind you'd always be wishing you'd upped the ante a little and bought an Z51 or the new Gran Sport. Different price point and different league all together vs a base Coupe. The Camaro is the best car GM has made in a very long time at its price point. They aren't discounting them too much as of yet, and the amount they are discounting the base Vette makes it a tough decision. Best of luck in your choice

One day I'll buy a vette. When I can't attract young girls and my balls fall into the toilet everytime I pop a squat.

I've decided to stick with the Camaro. I just can't get over the fact that the vette looks dated. I know the Camaro will eventually look dated as well, but I can get something else at that point rather than starting out with an older looking car.
The performance isn't far enough apart on the base C6 and the SS camaro to justify paying more for insurance. I'd also be giving up a backseat which could help out in emergencies as well...

I was thrown up over this big time as well... The Camaro gets a lot of attention right now which was a huge selling point. The Corvette is a sweet car but I would hate to own the low end model, I'd always be wishing I had more... The back seat is a huge seller as well, but I think what threw me over the edge was the "Muscle Car" look as opposed to the "Sports Car" look.
And you can talk performance all day but it really doesn't matter that much, a $31k 1SS will hang with if not out perform any of the corvettes with the price tag difference put into it. (10k for base or 30k for z06) |

1 second and 10mph isn't far enough? I won't even get into the handling aspects... I get what some of you are saying but comments like this certainly don't help your cause any.

I'd be willing to bet the Corvette insurance is actually cheaper than the SS if you shop it. Corvettes typically have surprisingly low rates and I know they are cheaper than an RT to insure.

S8ER I have to say that you really like the bash the performance of the 5th gen and take the bottom basement numbers compared to the fastest of other cars and make an arguement. 1 second is one heck of a stretch. I admit that the LS3 vette is a good deal faster than the SS, but 1 second? I'll give you .6 and that's being generous. 12.9 SS vs. 12.3 vette. Some will run faster and some will run slower for both but with a competent driver these numbers are very attainable.

11.71 @ 119mph - Best LS3 C6 to date I'm going to take the high road on this one and let you review the numbers yourself.

I guess you have the facts but I must remind you that the LS3 vette has been in the hands of owners since the end of 2007 and the Camaro has been since April. Just an observation. Cool weather is coming. FWIW I personally have seen a CAI and tune LS3 vette run 12.0's with a good driver.

1) What options were on the C6 running 11.71?? Those are the claimed numbers for a z06! 2) What was the weather? Come on give me a break... How about we look at Motor Trends numbers: 2008 Corvette Z51: 12.5 sec @ 115.0 mph 2010 Camaro: 12.8 sec @ 115.3 mph How about car and driver? 2010 Corvette Z06: 11.7 @ 124 mph oooo wait... z06 yea... 2010 Camaro: 13.0 sec @ 111 mph See my point... These cars are very close in horsepower, and a few hundred pounds different. That's not going to equal 1 second... Also, we are talking about the base corvette. Not the Z51 corvette, not the grand sport corvette, not the z06 corvette...

I want a Z06 and the price point is double the Camaro.
I need a sports coupe with a 9 year old. The Camaro is pure beauty and way too many vettes on the road. Love the SS Camaro oh and next 5 years I will have that 80k vette that I want.

trust me as I own both, the Camaro (even if I had the SS) will NEVER steal the thunder from my Corvette and as far as America's sports car, the Vette is and always be...KING !!! |
