winter vehicle?

Hi There,
I just wanted to get some ideas of what everyone's driving for a winter vehicle if any...I prefer not to drive my Camaro in the winter season as in the northeast we get nasty winters and the salt, chemicals, and sand they cover the roads with is the worst for your car. So i am looking into getting an AWD 4WD winter auto. I have a beater civic as its still lasting as my first car from high school hahah. As I travel now and something with AWD or 4wd would help with hills and slippery winter roads. I want something reliable and decent on gas as I commute to work and it cant be a true beater. something cheapish but not something I'm gonna have to put a load of money in to maintain.

Ive been looking into Colorados, Tacomas, Silverados, Subarus, canyons and the such. Please let me know your opinions!

thanks!

I have a '14 Tacoma 4x4 crew cab . Love it. Only money I've put into it was for gas & oil chgs. Son had same exact truck but an '05 for 7 yrs and put brakes on it. Only problem is re-sale is high IF you can find one.

Picked up a used Honda Pilot, some quirks but so far so good.

First and second gen Honda CR-Vs (97-06) are a great option. I have a 2003 for winter months when there's snow and or salt on the roads. Very reliable, good gas mileage, reasonable prices and great in the snow, especially with snow tires. I have Firestone Winterforce tires on mine and it's pretty much unstoppable in the snow. I had an 97 (first gen) for about 10 years, but recently sold it and picked up a 2003 (second gen). It's a little bigger, a little more power and more comfortable.

Ive got a 2008 VW Passat here for the Iowa winters. I think AWD would be pretty sweet but the FWD cars are just a cheaper alternative. FWD with good snow tires will work just fine IMO. That said whats your price range? Ive been looking at cars I would eventually like to have as my second car featuring AWD and decided that a used Subaru Impreza/WRX or a used BMW 3 series X-Drive were the best choices. Likely wont splurge for a nicer winter vehicle for a few years - but a nice used option of those cars can be had for around $10,000 depending on year.

Thanks for the opinion tacomas are def high up on my list the only problem is they hold their value so damn much i guess id have spend a little more than id like to get something 4x4 and decent mileage and year! But if they really last forever maybe its worth it!

Is this strictly for the winter though? or will it be a daily driver year round? If you are going to spend significant time in it versus the Camaro for example, you may want something a little nicer.

Its going to be strictly winter. I daily drive my camaro for the most part in the spring summer and fall. I just need something for the winter and if i get a truck then i could use it for moving purposes and dump runs and what not.
