1LE Fuel Economy

I am still breaking in my 1LE and am at about 600 miles. I've been driving the car about 99% of the time in Sport mode. This is my DD which is freeway (15 Miles each way) and some side roads with stop signs/lights. It seems as though the fuel economy is off as I am averaging just over 15 mpg. Is this normal for break in? I am assuming a couple of things:

1. Fuel economy varies with Mode Selection?
2. Break in process will impact fuel economy? I've heard it gets better.
3. How you drive it matters. I am following the normal recommended break in process.

I am not expecting this car to be a Prius but thought the mpg would be a little higher i.e. an average between the window sticker fuel consumption numbers. Anyone else with this issue?

Definitely not normal. I drive in sport/track only. I average 21 mpg on back roads with lots of spirited driving. Have never gone below 18 mpg reading no matter how hard I get on it. Bad CA gasoline? May be change your gas station and make sure you use premium such as Shell or Chevron

I've been using Chevron 91 Octane. I'll try a different gas station and reset my Trip B to track. Reading up on some of the Track MPG and they were at 6 or 5, made me feel better but based on what you get, I'm concerned.

I've gotten about 16.5 over the year I've had it. 27 mile commute, half back roads and half highway. I do drive it hard. Frankly, I think you're OK. The only way you're going to get 20mpg is if you constantly short shift and only do about 60 on the highway.

1LE will get less mpg than the base SS

I get 25ish on the highway going 70ish and in the city it's into the teens.

Ya short shifting and 60 mph are definitely not in the cards . I'll keep an eye on it and post back. Curious what others have experienced during initial break in.

With so much torque on tap, if you are not driving aggressive, there's no reason to row through all sorts of gears, so skip when it makes sense. My 1LE should be here in a week or so, but I would average around 22-24 on the highway trips with my LS3 previously, with my all time best of 26 going cross-country, but I could also drive pretty hard with some full power pulls and still get a combined 18. Mileage is very affected by driving styles though. Keep the thing around 1000rpm or a little over, and it's plenty happy.

The best 50 mile segment I've achieved is 30.3 mpg. I've seen multiple 28+ MPG segments before and after this one. Here were the conditions: After break in, 87 octane 10% Ethanol, highway, 18" snow tires, below 50 degree outside air temp, no power modifications, no passengers, and 65 to 70 MPH.

With the summer tires and higher outside temperatures the best I've been able to get is <27 MPG. Running on 88 octane 15% Ethanol doesn't seem to make any difference in my non-scientific "testing".

I got 9 mpg during break in because I kept varying the engine speed. Now it's around 17 mixed city/highway.

Totally normal.

I have 11,000 miles. I have never reset Trip A and I have 15.7mpg.

My last 'long' trip (100+ miles) was 23.8mpg.

Yep, I agree. I have been fluctuating rpm’s for break-in so also has a lot to do with it. One thing I noticed was one click below Trip B there is an instant read mpg and you can get an idea on where things are based on different conditions i.e. accel, decel, cruise etc. It moves all over the place but is interesting nonetheless. I also live in the foothills so everything is a factor. Appreciate the feedback everyone!
