Can honestly say the following for the M4 with a price point of $86,000:

-Seats are much nicer than the SS/1LE seats in terms of materials and looks. Recaros grip better.
Supposedly the sport seats in the lower 430/440 are the shiz compared to the "standard" ones on those cars, yet I found them to be just "passable". Weren't as nice as my old 2SS. The high end seats in the M4 are probably better, but the heated/cooled recaros in my 2SS are pretty nice, no complaints.

Quote:
-Door panels are definitely a big step up in materials and layout.
I find them to be about the same as far as doors. Camaro doors are bigger and that "magnifies" the plastic real-estate?

Quote:

-Dash is complicated with buttons for everything, along with the center tunnel/console area.

-Steering wheel isn't any nicer than the Camaro.
Same with the 2SS, that entire row above the vents is all buttons, more than necessary. The BMW I-drive system is flat out better though, to be able to use all the functions of the computer without ever having to reach forward and touch a screen is a plus. Like the ergonomics of the m-sport steering wheel a bit better (button placement/function), but then again mine wasn't heated and my new 2SS is. No contest, heated steering wheel is heavenly. All in all very comparable for being a good wheel, the steerING on the other hand, BMW is poor.

Quote:
-Visibility is better at the C pillar, but that's every car vs. the Camaro.
Except the rear visibility is about the same, same height rear window. Sills are a little high on the 4-series, nowhere near as high as the camaro.

Quote:
-Trunk opening is wider and lower but the height is more restrictive if that makes sense. Not a deep trunk.
Hands down more functional on the BMW.

Quote:

-Car feels larger overall (I'd have to look up the dimensions, it should be the same as the Camaro).
I noticed the Camaro has shrunk inside with the current gen, obviously even more useless rear seats magnify this, but it's not as wide side to side either, so it is a little more cozy.

Quote:
-Materials and fit and finish were a little bit nicer overall, but it didn't make the Camaro feel downmarket at all compared to my 2SS. It didn't have some features the Camaro has (heated steering, HUD, larger infotainment screen, same amount of USB ports in same hard to reach area).
I don't see this to be much different, a little better dash is possible with the BMW, still when you really look around there's a LOT of plastic in an M4, more than I think people may notice, but it's there.

Quote:

BMW just feels like a dying brand these days when it comes to performance cars. The M4 almost felt forced, like they did it because they had to rather than because they wanted to.
Think about the M4 GTS and all the compromises it has to make and it's still not faster. That says a lot to me.

1). Have you tuned the car at all?

2). Why not delete the clutch delay valve?

I tuned mine with the BMS intake and piggyback. It had no issues at all with lighting up the rear tires and it kept up with/beat my friends DCT e92 M3 while spinning them through the first two gears.

Edit: Post 666 yikes
Short answer is, I'm not a modder. If a car isn't fast enough for me, then I get another one.

I'm sure my stock BMW could light up the tires in 1st gear - I'm just not into that. The hard 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are what I miss.

You can blame me for starting this discussion.

I was just saying that even though my BMW is faster around a race track than my old Mustang, after 3 years with the M235i my verdict is that the Mustang was much more fun. I have been driving pony/muscle cars since my first Z28 in 1974, and I still get a kick out of shifting hard and getting the rear end loose. The BMW takes all that fun away with it's tenacious grip and ever-present nannies. (Even with the nannies all the way off, they're not really all the way off.) So I'll be the first to admit it's a frivolous discussion.

Never tried to do a burnout, I bet breaking the 325's lose wouldn't too hard with the LT4. Even with the steam rollers in the back, I have trouble getting traction quite often.

Off topic: How do you like the M235i wjones? I'm looking at getting a new daily driver, one of the requirements is it has to be manual. If I remember correctly the M235I was offered with a 6 speed correct?

In my stock SS 1LE, I've had no trouble doing hooligan maneuvers in 2nd and 3rd gears on dry pavement with clutch fully engaged rolling onto the throttle (no clutch kick cheating) to spin up the rear tires in oversteer maneuvers in corners if that is what you are asking. Can't just put the skinny pedal down as the only driver input though; you have to use rear to front axle weight transfer input by lifting momentarily before going to power and then may have to put in a slight inward steer angle input to make it happen depending on the pavement situation.

You nailed it! It's all about how the car makes you feel and what your purpose is. It's hard to compare the engine of the M235i to US made V8. Heck even my M550i which has the same power as the LT1 feels less stout in all measures. It took a lot for me to come to a Chevy from BMW M cars. You just have to truly dig down and ask yourself what you need the given car to do for you. If you want the be the fastest and best handling guy in the $46k range, then 1LE it is. I love BMW and always will, but until they at least match the 2013 and below M car overall qualifies, I will be spending my money on other manufacturers that offer advanced technology, performance, and individual fun factor. Of course, this is just my opinion

I would totally expect the Mustang to win the burnout considering it has the line-lock feature. The 1LE does not, and the 1LE is not built for burnouts, it's built to put the power down effectively. Personally, at $400 a tire, I'm not looking to do any.

Mine is a 6-speed, and yes, the 2018 M240i can still be had in a 6-speed.

I do like the car, but I don't love it like I loved the Mustang. If luxury/sport is what you're looking for, it fits that bill. The 6-speed is quick enough (0-60 in ~4.6), small, and nimble - so easy to drive and park. The quality of the car is outstanding, right down to every little detail. When you close the windows in that car, you don't hear anything from the outside. After a lifetime of American cars, the BMW brand is just a completely different culture.

But after three years I realize I want something less sterile and more raw, visceral. I fell in love instantly on my first test drive in a 2SS a little more than a year ago. It was like getting into a NASCAR Cup car - so much like a race car compared to the sedate and conservative BMW.

Had no problems spinning the rear wheels here. (did have to take the TC/SC off)

Drive it! Alaska in the snow!

BTW, I've had two Mustangs (Bullitt and Cobra)and they were fun to drive, not sophisticated but the best in fun to dollar ratio.

Yep. Re-read the first post in this thread. Not only did they want to present the objective numbers (like every other test), but they also wanted to determine the typical bar argument pony car credentials. They called it cowboy science - noise, burnouts, and non-optimized drag racing.

I don't do burnouts and it sounds like you may not either, but obviously, a lot of folks who buy these types of cars will occasionally (or frequently) melt their tires. Whatever a car is capable of, people will do it - just human nature.

I found it interesting that they ran them in a “mile” and the mustang beat the camaro by 8mph, that’s a lot and I wonder if the 8 speed auto would have done better in that area

I can't imagine buying a 1LE and this being anybody's deciding factor. Put cheap tires on if you want to do burnouts. Don't fry a set of goodyears just because you can.
