Friends looking into Monte Carlo -ebay
He asks what i think about it .
lol apparently "i know everything about cars " but i don't have any used car buying experience . it looks feshly detailed and in pretty good shape. right under 70,000 miles or so . tho here is where i turn to you guys .. hes buying it from a local chevy dealership, not the one where i bought my camaro . they have it as a ebay auction. as of now its going for $2,000 with 2 1/2 days left. i was hoping you guys could take a look at it and help me give him some advice. the link to ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...t_22526wt_1165

I am sorry but those cars are hideous IMO, same with the Impala.

I'm with ^^^^
Worst version of the Monte by far. There are much better cars for the money. On the other hand, if this is the car your friend really wants, it seems to be well taken care of and has fairy low mileage for the age. |

Look at the title history. You don't want to buy anything with a bad history. Carfax is a good read. Rental/lease vehicles and ones that have been in a reported accident can't be good for value.

I wouldn't get a w-body with the 3.4 = leaky intake gaskets and no power.
Ideally get an SS with the Supercharged 3.8 L67 (2004,5 I think) for the Monte or in later versions the 5.3 LS4. Lots of mods out there for these cars. On the L67 a simple pulley swap, u-bend delete and 1.9 ratio rockers and you are on your way to 300hp and a mountain of torque. Transmissions are glass in stock form. Though I have a sister car (02 Grand Prix) I like the 70-88 Monte's better. |

except for the color of the interior and way less miles, that car in the ebay link is IDENTICAL to my 'Monty' (even the rims are the same). if you can steal one of them 2000 to when they stopped making them Monte Carlos, they are GOOD cars. Mine is going on 8 years old and I have never had any gasket leaks and I think the 3.4 with 180hp is more then enough to make it go (it is not very fast going up a hill from a dead stop tho). If I DID buy another Monte, I would for sure get a SS or at least the SS with the supercharged V6.
