What is the best oil filter for 2011 1LT V6?

Going to be changing the oil on my own for the first time on the Camaro. Wanted to see hat the consensus is for the best oil filter. I had ordered a Wix oil filter from Amsoil, but all I received was the oil and the filter was being shipped separately and I still don't have it. So I am kind of limited to stock at Autozone, Napa, and O'Reiley.

ACDelco should do just fine.

I have used the AC, Amsoil and now the Royal Purple. So far I like the Royal Purple the best based on start up oil pressure. With the AC and Amsoil it took a second or two to get oil pressure. With the Royal Purple it is instant. Something to do with the anti-drain back valve in the filter.

I have about 1000 miles on my 2013 2LT R/S camaro and want to rid of the break-in oil, couple of questions? What oil would the dealership put in the vehicle? It's the V-6 and I plan on running synthetic oil, if I buy my own to take to the dealer to change how many quarts? Will it break my warranty?

Mobil or K&N are the best filters available for the V6.
Mobil M1C-254
K&N PS-7003

As for the oil, your car came with GM Dexos oil in it which is a semi-synthetic blend. In other words it is a Group II dino oil blended with a Group III hydrocracked synthetic which is made by XOM. A semi-synthetic most commonly only has 15-30% synthetic oil in it and the rest is plain ol dino oil. Any synthetic you choose as long as it meets the Dexos standard is a much better oil. Any of the "off the shelf synthetics" I.E. Mobil 1, Pennzoil Ultra or Castrol Edge will do you just fine. Running a boutique synthetic I.E. Amsoil, Redline, Royal Turdple in your V6 is a waste of money because of the very short OLM life with the V6.

I believe in its capabilities from personal use with oil analysis reports backing up my OCI's. Besides, I know more than most cut and paste Amsoil dealers which are at least 95% of them.

Oil for camaro V6

The best oil to use on a 2010, 2011 and 2012 V6 is the same oil recommended by GM for the V8 - Mobil 1 5W-30. Mobil 1 oil has been specially designed for GM LS family of engines. Heavy weight oils and higher viscosity oils are not recommended as they increase oil pressure (damaging seals) and they take more time and effort to circulate and lubricate the engine parts.

For example, the LS6 block has more efficient oiling passages than the LS1 block. Back in 2001, my friend started to use other synthetic oil on his camaro SS (LS1). In a few years, some of the seals are leaking. Royal Purple and AMSOIL make good systhetic oil also. But if you pour them into a glass beaker, you will notice that for the same 5W-30, Mobil 1 5W-30 is the thinnest, as noted by other members of this forum. Unlike the old days, all the modern 5W-30 or 5W-20 synthetic oils does not break down with combustion chamber temperature up to 235+ degree celsius. The Mobil 1 oil has high sulfated ash content as determined by ASTM testing method - a high degree of detergents to dissolve sludge, etc. With all that said, I am sticking with Mobil 1 5W-30.

With that said, I am sticking with Mobil 1 5W-30.

That said, the Camaro's oil life monitor is set up for Dexos which per post #6 is no more than 30% synthetic. Since synthetic formulas are suppose to last longer than pure dino or dexos oils, how many miles before oils changes on Mobile 1? Is there an option to change the monitor to a synthetic oil calulation?

Can't ever go wrong with OEM, and don't worry about voiding the warranty.........I worked for GM customer service and people would have a broken axle and tell me they had their oil changed at the dealer so it should be warranted..........

The PF-2129 will be okay . That's what I use . There is no drain-back valve,it's open on both ends.

For a filter, get one that mixes in glass fibers in with the cellulose. Cheap filters just have cellulose paper. Glass fibers in there mean the filter is harder to clog and might get smaller particles too. Glass fiber-enhanced ones are Mobil1 M1C-254, Bosch Premium 3474, NAPA Gold 7090, Fram TG8765, or Pennzoil Platinum HPZ-55. The NAPA Gold 7090 appears to be the cheapest by far glass-enhanced filter available. I've seen the Mobil one filter go for $20 (ouch!) and I doubt if its any better than the other glass-enhanced media filters.

Go for any synthetic 5w-30 engine oil that lists the HTO-06 and GM 4178M specs. And dexos1 is good to have on top of those two performance specs, because dexos1 adds good wear performance and anti-foaming requirements.

I know its beeen said that dexos1 qualification supersedes GM 4178M, but remember 4178M had a stronger high-temperature requirement that tolerates less oxidation (thickening) and volatility (boil-off) on a standard engine test called Sequence IIIE which is part of the basic SN qualification. Personally, I've seen some reason to believe that SOPUS (Quaker State, Pennzoil synthetics) products are best for the least engine deposits too.

Then get a Dimple (strong magnet) magnetic drain plug to get iron/steel particles out in the 1 to 30 micron range.

i agree, NAPA Gold oil filter is my choice, as its made by Wix, generally a good company by reputation, and glass mixed with cellulose in the filter media, good price too

K&N PS-7003 + Mobil 1 5W-30 (6 quarts) and yes you can bring all of it to the dealer just tell them you brought your own filter/oil and they'll do it for like $10 (I had to do that when I went TDY since I didn't have my ramps or jack with me).

As for the little read out, I never use it I just change it every 3,000-4,000 miles. Sure it can last longer than that but oil is not that expensive so why not change it the same time every time
