I need some advice on getting a refund on an extended warranty
Here goes. I bought a 5 year/50,000 mile extended warranty on my 2010 SS that I recently traded in with 20K miles on the clock. The dealer I traded the car in told me I should be entitled to get a partial refund for the extended warranty that was left on my '10 SS. I think I paid somewhere in the $1400 range for the warranty.
So I'm just wondering what all am I entitled for when it comes to getting a refund from the dealer that originally sold me my SS? I'm trying to gather all my facts straight before I pay the dealer a visit. I'm hoping they don't try to weasel their way out of it.

Their finance people should be able to tell you. Atleast that's how it worked at my local dealer. When my dad traded in his vette he had about another 2 years of extended warranty left and he got somewhere around 500 bucks back if I am not mistaken. I forgot what his initial cost was though. They will refund you a prorated amount for the time that was left over.

Read the fine print on your extended warranty paperwork. The answer is/should be there. The dealer will just turn you away as it is probably not their warranty and is a 3rd party's warranty. I just purchased my car a couple of months ago and for the price I got my car for, I too bought an extended warranty. I had 30 days to cancel or alter the terms of the warranty. See what your paperwork says. Good luck

Refunds are pro rated based on time and mileage. Since the car is paid off as in traded in. You get the refund. Cars that have active liens on them the check goes to the lien holder.
You have to visit the dealer you bought it from and sign a form to request a refund or by email form they provide. Someone from the dealership has to verify mileage. This is a bit different for you as you no longer have the car and hopefully the mileage was documented somewhere on paper at trade in otherwise you might have a difficult time on that one. Even if it was a 3rd party warranty you can deal with the dealer you bought the warranty from. I can tell you due to age and miles you will get less than 50% of your original cost. I cancelled mine at 23k miles and exactly 2yrs old and got 60% back |

The contract on my new car clearly shows the details on my traded in SS which includes mileage.

Then visit your original dealer and bring that paperwork. sign a warranty cancel request form in finance department. .Request check sent directly to you. They send it off and it takes up to 8 weeks to get a check back. I got mine in 3 weeks from Stingray.

Extended warranties are written by lawyers to protect the insurance company and not the consumer!
Extended warranties are a waste of money!! |

I had the GAP insurance on the Jeep that I traded in on my new Camaro. The Chevy dealer walked my wife and I through the whole process to get the GAP plan on the Jeep refunded and we got the check in the mail this week. Takes a little bit of work and you have to have proof of the vehicle being sold/traded and once you have that you should be good to go. Just contact the service contract company and get your money.

You should get a pro rated refund as long as you have not made a claim on the warranty.

When we traded the wife's Solstice, we had to take the car to the dealer we pruchased from.
They had to verify mileage and sign the form. We got a check in the mail. We owed on it still, and still got the refund.... unsure who said it goes to the lein holder, but this is not true. We had the GMPP policy.
