Planning on buying a convertible.
For the first time in my life, I'm planning to buy the car of my dreams. I don't want to compromise on anything. I have never spent this much on a car.
I drove a convertible Camaro last weekend and my mind is made up to buy one. Now I need to sort out what I want and what I don't need on the car. I either want a 2LT or a 2SS. I need to figure out if the difference in price is worth it to me. Do I need all that muscle? I want the RS package and I also want a 2012, although the deals on 2011 are tempting. Finding this forum is huge. I see that there are some serious issues with the ragtops that are in the early stages of getting sorted out. More than ever, I would want a new car for the warranty. So, given the issues you may be having, would you still buy your car?

I've had no issues and love it. I struggled with the 2LT vs. 2SS too, and very happy I went for the 2SS. Rag top, no serious issues and covered under warranty. Good luck!

No issues here either after 6K miles. I went for the 2SS, and it was an easy choice for me as you only live once. My only complaint is that the car isn't quick enough, especially off the line and until 3500 rpm or so. Yes, the vert is heavy and the 21's don't help either. But all in all, I'm glad with my purchase, after 28 years since I sold my last Camaro ('68).

My top only has a very small mark on each side. I know some people have had a lot of problems (water leakage, 5th bow damage) and GM still hasn't got a fix yet.
As for your other question, if your thinking of a 2SS you should get it. If you get the LT, you will always wonder if you should have got the SS. You would lose a lot trading it in after a year.

I had the exact same dilemma about the 2LT vs 2SS vert. I drove both and was very impressed with the power of the 2LT, but the sound and torque of the SS won me over. This was the first new car I ever purchased and I could not be more happy with the purchase. No issues with my rag top either since I bought it in Sept! Enjoy the ride and get the car that your gut tells you to get...otherwise you may regret the purchase later.

I also struggled with the 2LT vs. 2SS
my decision was the 2LT based upon operating costs fuel insurance and cost of vehicle everything here in Canada is much higher cars about 25% more fuel about 50% more also for me, since I am storing it in the winter and where I live you can't really open up and appreciate the V8 (too much traffic) and the fact that I only wanted to spend x amount of dollars. As for my vert. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! no issues so far. Test drive both and purchase then one you want. You only live once...enjoy your ride. |

Love the car too (minus the top issues). I actually was choosing between the 2LT and the SS. I chose the 2LT because I didn't feel the extra $1800 or so, was worth it.
Here's the way I looked at it; first off, its the wife's car (no not really the reason). We have over 300hp with the V-6 now. That's as much power (or more) as when the V-8's first came out. The 323hp (I believe that's the number. Something like that) coupled with the gearing that they put on these cars, makes for a car that has a little giddy-up to it (obviously talking 6 speed manual). I also took the SS out and it was the least impressive 450hp sports car I've driven. I was kinda disappointed. (I do come from driving modded Mitsubishi Eclipse's that put down more than that. I run them at the track and that's where I get my "jollies"). I'm not much for racing on the street, so the V-6 is enough to give a little pep to street driving. There is also the gas mileage angle to look at. Are you willing to shell out the extra cash you will need in the years to come? When gas starts getting really expensive? Now, with that said, if the costs were equal, I would probably choose the SS. In my experience with sports cars, the SS will certainly have a higher resale value down the road and since we won't put that many miles on her per year (maybe 8-10k tops), the gas mileage won't mean that much to me. Just some food for thought. |

I have had mine since April. No issues other than marks on top, which dealer addressed and I have been doing any mods posted on forum to prevent any further problems. I would go for any option you think you might like to have, as it easier and cheaper to order with vehicle, than try to add later. I have been there, nothing worse than driving a new car wishing you had just order the whats-ma-call-it as a option for say $1000. Now you want it and it costs $2000 just for the parts and takes you two day to in install, if it can be installed. I would also order the vert, as people are running into the same problems with tops on 2012 models. Maybe you will get lucky and the problems will have been straightened out by the car is built.

Just got mine last Friday. Between Orlando Florida city driving & 40-50 mile interstate trips where I average 65 mph, my mileage is at 540 & I'm averaging 21 mpg. Absolutely NO Issues with the top or anything else at this point.
I had no need to race & don't care about the sound of the V8, so I got the 2LT RS Vert 45th Edition - I can't say enough positive things about this car and I'm glad I got it instead of the V8. But, to each his own.... |

I followed this forum for a while before joining, and still ordered a 2SS vert. Yes, some have issues, and some don't - I'm hoping I get one of the good ones. If you search around here you will find a lot of owners who have traded in their LT for an SS, but you will also find many who are happy with their LT. Myself, I knew I wanted the convertible V8 from the get-go. I had been thinking about the ZL1, but decided that it just might be too much for a daily driver for me (although likely fine for some others and too long of a wait. Personal choice!

I do love my car... but I am having the problem with the 5th bow. It has been in the shop almost 2 weeks and the dealer informs me that they are still trying to find the part.
Would I do it again? If this "fix" solves the problem, i definitely would. If I find that I continue to have these issues, I might rethink that. I'll keep you posted

I love my car. having lots of fun cruising it and racing it.
Get the SS because then you will be sorry you didn't and there will be yet another "Swapping to a V8" thread.
