Automobile Magazine 03/07 - Hard top for vert?

I picked up this issue and it had a good read. In the mag, they were talking about the conv Camaro. I take all of this with a grain of salt, but had to mention a couple of areas they touched on...for the entire article, pick up this issue...here's the out takes I thought were interesting.

"Interestingly, Tom Peters (GM's director of exterior design) won't entirely rule out the notion of a folding hard top. Although it's unlikely, since the extra cost involved would make the Camaro less competitive against its Ford Mustang rival, Chevy could conceivably offer both a ragtop and a folding hard top, as do the Mazda MX-5 and the Chrysler Sebring."

..."the Audi features a hinged tonneau that covers the roof once it's stacked in the trunk. That's not a cheap solution, and as always, the final details of the design for the Camaro's mechanism will be driven by cost."

Do I think it'll happen? No. Would I like to see a hard top? Uh...HELL YEAH!!!

there's just something about a ragtop Camaro that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside... or at least it does for me

it's a cool idea, but I just think that its a little too trendy and over the top (no pun intended)

I can see removable hard tops on real sports cars like the Corvette, Solstice, Sky, but not on the Camaro.

If it was available, it wouldn't be on my option list. I think T-Tops are a pain enough, much less winching a hard top on and off

Thanks for that info. Tag.

Some interesting news there. Maybe Chevrolet's thinking of offering it as an option on a "higher-end" model?

Personally, to me, a folding hard-top doesn't "fit" with the "persona" of a Camaro. I hear folding hard-top and I think Mercedes, etc. If I were choosing a 'vert for the 5th Gen., I'd go with the soft-top, saving some weight and money.

I think Pontiac G6....

i would love a hard top... I have never liked rag tops. To me the hard top offers the best of both worlds: the smooth lines of a coupe with the great feel of a vert!

Again, I agree completely. Seriously, I like your way of thinking...
I've never wanted a soft top vert...I've seen so many have the tops cut and would never want to see my vert end up like that. I'd take a removable hard top panel (like the vette) or a hard top vert w/out hesitation. The main thing is the importance of keeping the coupes lines and w/ a hard top, you can still do that getting the best of both worlds. Sure, it's a little extra weight, but toss on some headers and the added weight is cancelled out.

Don't shoot me, but I would really love a T-top option, my probably wouldn't get it , but I'd love to see it.

I agree 100% with that statement. Hardtop is the ONLY way I'd buy a convertible.

have you guys read the information Hot Rod Magazine published about the Camaro this month? I found a few discussions on some other boards talking about it. They say the vert will weigh 3,750 lbs and the coupe 100 less than that. Found that pretty interesting to hear....
