I wasn't lecturing. I asked a legit question as to why one would go that route instead of just changing the oil.

I always reach the mileage mark between oil changes. The lowest I've ever gotten to is 25%. Love driving it too much to let it sit idle for too long. Luckily I live where I can drive throughout the year

Mine showed up at 7%. The Oil Life Monitor is based on miles driven and time.

Ok, so pretty close. On cars I’ve had in the past , the reminder would come on around 20% left. Big difference compared to these cars.

I drive mine, 43,000 miles in about 2.5 years. I get about 6,000 miles between oil changes and change the oil between 10-20% life.

I’m happy to report that I have never had to add oil between changes. She doesn’t burn a drop.

Nice, I did have to add half a quart last time.

My understanding is it's the additives that start to break down at the 1 year mark, not the oil itself. That is START to break down, not "are useless" at 1 year.
If you don't feel like changing the oil at 0% on the OLM, I think you'll be fine for another 6 mos./1500 miles.
3000 miles and oil that still looks like honey means mostly low rev miles to me. Lower revs means less blow-by gases for the oil to absorb.
If in doubt, send a sample off for UOA and they'll tell you how much life is left.

Good info, thank you, but I will probably change at zero.

There have been some good articles posted around here in the past about the gm oil life monitor. It's considered to be pretty accurate. It isn't only about time and mileage. It also considers temperature, speed, acceleration and other performance metrics.

I'd rather err on the side of safety/conservativeness...
And how did the diff fluid look? That stuff turns nasty real fast.
