True but with the canned tune you have to flash the ecu so that already changes the checksum. So come smog time, you show that the kit is CARB compliant with the EO sticker/number. I doubt your local smog center would even know anything beyond the kit is CARB legal. One nice thing that Cali has done is that new cars don't have to be smogged for 8 years. |

You're kidding, right? Or is this the reg fee till the end of the 8-year emissions testing exemption?

Not to derail the thread here, glad that Magnusson has finally accomplished this for you all that get your car checked over at this level. In Northern VA, there is 'personal property tax' which is probably ~2,000 a year on a car like the ZL1. That's on top of the registration and you pay it every year. It is based on their assessed value of the vehicle....So I'd take 800/year any day over that stuff!

Kudos to Magnuson for finally going through with this process. I am a glad customer of theirs, not the 2650, but still a Maggie, just to make this not totally offtopic

Either way, this is really good news for us in CA. CA has been systematically been killing hot rodding in the state, so some mod passing with a CARB EO is surprising and keeps us in the game. Yes, I agree with the comments that the out-of-the-box Magnuson tune was not performant. However, if that allows you to flash the computer back if you have to get emissions tested or go to a REF station - awesome! Arguably, I have a lot of stuff on my car to put back to stock if that ever happened… but, I like options.

I am, beginning of March to Fort Worth, put in a transfer through work. Not only is California killing the muscle car scene, they are also doing everything in their power to make it miserable to live here....but that's for another thread....
