Tramlining with wider tires
I just installed OEM ZL1 wheels on my LT1 camaro, I had them balance and aligned. I’ve noticed on some of the rougher roads the car will tramline, has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if it has to do with the design of the tire or what is causing it. It’s got the stock Goodyear Eagle F1 supercar 3 285/30 up front and 305/20 in the rear.

From my experience - wider tyres particularly performance tyres with a stiffer sidewall can exaggerate tramlining.
I would prob look into your suspension geometry too since you changed the wheels. |

What pressure are you running them at?

Yes my ZL1 does the same thing especially on highly traveled roads and streets. No issue here just something you get adjusted to.

They’re set at 31 PSI all around. The geniuses at discount tire had one set at 40 PSI and the other three set at 25-26 PSI. It was like that when they got balanced and aligned. Would the tire pressure affect the reading of the balancing and alignment?

Sounds good. I’m new to changing wheels, so is that something that I would have the alignment machine fix?

I'm assuming your talking about wandering around on the road? Worse if the road has grooves, I'm guessing. For sure a wider tire can cause this and tire pressures may exaggerate it if they are too low. Some tread designs may make it worse and the alignment can cause some wandering also. Did you have the alignment set up to factory spec or more aggressive for tracking.

Did they give you an alignment sheet?

But yes, I have the same wheels as you with 305 rears the wider tires make it worse as well. Funny enough I get the opposite with the stock wheels/tires. When I accelerate the car pulls one way or the other which feels like Tramlining I have to be careful with the smaller tires. It is especially noticeable at higher speed accelerations |

I noticed a significant reduction in tram lining when I went from summer to all season tires. They were the same size and mounted on the same wheels.
So I think maybe grip is also a factor. |
