I am more bothered by the light that leaks out behind the infotainment screen on the sides.

The overhead console LED is on a lot of cars today. BMW was the first to have it and now everyone does.
You can pull the overhead console and simply unplug the harness from the light. It’s easily accessible and easy to do. |

I have an 18 and that map light you're referring to is my nemesis. I like my lights all the way down or off at night. I've unplugged it before and sadly, didn't realize how helpful it was. So now I just put black vinyl over it when it bugs me.
You're not alone. |

This should take care of it, looks like it works on everything but brakes.

I feel silly. It seemed so out of place to me that I assumed it was a poor fitment issue. Take the screen off? May have to Google that.... |

Not everyone wants to turn off the whole ambient system to address a small light issue.

Others wondered about the 6th gen courtesy lights, too, so this is a borderline fit for the adage "if someone can interpret your design as a flaw, your design is indeed flawed"... I for one love these subtle lights, the way that small white LED behind the infotainment screen illuminates the carbon fiber dash panel is absolutely classy.
