Just to answer a few questions here real quick..

Well the video is a little tricky here. The explosion was very far away from the ground. While sound is fast.. it still takes some time to travel. If anyone were very close to the explosion, they would've heard it ASAP. But the people in these videos are miles away from the explosion. So what they heard was the sonic boom when it finally made it to them.

I hope I made enough sense there.

Oh yeah these two meteors aren't related in any way.

Not that this has much to do with this event.. But if you knew that the entire population of earth was doomed because a meteor was heading our way, and nothing could be done, would you tell the general public?

This meteor was nothing like Tunguska. If it was, the casualties would be much larger.

Incorrect. It was around 6 meters long. Which is 20 feet long.

I wouldn't tell the public, why cause mass hysteria over it. Why let people worry their lives away not to mention the casualties that would be directly caused because of other people knowing. Especially if it was a certainty, there would be no reason to care anymore about anything besides yourself and a select few of you choosing.

Either way it's not like we knew this was coming and decided not to tell, the asteroid avoidance for smaller objects like this is the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack, we track things that we know are up there and things that we ourselves put up there.

But correct me if I'm wrong, don't we only search for objects of a certain size or greater? I can't remember the exact dimensions but I know it's listed somewhere.
