Camaro SSX
Does anyone know what happened to the Camaro SSX? I remember seeing a couple of videos of it 4-5 years ago. I couldn't ever seem to find any info about it except in a couple of the videos. I'm just curious what happened to it.

The spirit of the SSX largely became the 1LE option for the SS. Not sure about the prototype itself.

The car was a GM SEMA show car. I have no idea what they do with them once they run their marketing course.

If it was prototype built with no VIN, then it was most likely destroyed. In January 2015, they (Chevy) had a prototype 'special' version of a C7 on display at Barrette Jackson. When asked if they were going to 'auction it off', the answer was no, it might go to the next SEMA before it is dismantled/destroyed.

Seems closer to a Z/28 than a 1LE?

Thanks for the info. I always really liked this car, and the Z06x also. It's a shame that they would have destroyed these cars!

I saw that SSX several times. Last time I think was at the Woodward Dream Cruise in the Performance Parts display a couple years back. It had a VIN. In the video he talks about starting with an SS. I looked up the VIN once way back then, I think I remember it being a black SS. It's not related to any Camaro....1LE, Z28... no relation. It was a concept to show someone what they could build in a max effort road race car. It's a track car. Mostly related to the COPO concept. But the COPO became a reality... the SSX did not. It was one of those SEMA wow factor cars. To duplicate it, you give a new SS to Pratt & Miller with a blank check. And there better be several hundred thousand in that account to build a race car like that. If you've ever priced out a new road course car from a builder like Pratt and Miller, it get's into the hundreds of thousands fast. And then there is +++ for all the spares needed. It makes a COPO drag car look cheap. |
