Should Smoking be Allowed on Casino Floors (Casino Patrons Only) - Page 2

Not at all. I say this and am NOT a regular casino patron. I will visit in the future and like most people, don't want to be subject to other peoples smoking. I don't like it. And, for those that want to give me flack, I used to be a smoker.

I would have checked the box, "No. But, they can have a designated smokers area." I'm fine with that. A separate part of the casino walled off w/ glass so smokers can go in there if they wish. But, out on the floor? Nope.

actually most gamblers are smokers. check out casinos with seperate sections. smoking sections are always the ones that are packed and the non smoking sections are empty. my suspicion is that people are just voting no because they don't like smoke for whatever reason, not because they actually visit casinos as often as others

Up to the owner...

I dont smoke, but i know that if i want to go to a bar or casino or club that chances are im going to have to deal with it.

Common Sense isnt so Common.

The only issue i have with smokers is when they start demanding smoke breaks and such over what is normally given (so a smoker should get more breaks than a non smoker?).

Smoking is not an excuse for special treatment (and neither is being a parent).

Why should I have to put up with YOUR bad habits! Dont get me wrong Im all for people killing themselves with legal chemicals and all that but dont intrude on my good fun.

The reason they are banning it public locations is because it's proven second hand smoke is far worse than what the smoker inhales, if it's filtered, and they might eventually ban smoking period, i hope.

a solution would be a smoking lisence, much like a liquor lisence. the establishment can then be advertised as a smoking establishment, the state will make money and there will be a natural grouping of people. on a side note, i will bet $50 that the smoking establishment will be the more popular late night venue.

again, i would prefer this poll be for casino patrons and kindly ask if you do vote, that you give a short blurb as to why it should not be allowed in casinos, at all (meaning at no slots, no tables, no sports betting). i say this because its my position that most regular gamblers are smokers or don't mind smoking when they do goto the casino. i know of a few that would prefer the floors be smoke free but from my experience, the non smoking and smoking sections at casinos that accomodate both paint a fairly clear picture.

I recall reading somewhere, not sure where though, that if they knew what they know now about how harmful it is, smoking would never be allowed. It would most likely be in the same group as marijuana.

the point i am trying to make is that the three vices of smoking gambling and drinking compliment each other extremely well. if you take a look at smoking and non smoking sections of a casino, you will see what i mean.

These two pretty much sum up how I feel. I would vote "not at all" except that I don't really go to casinos too often...

It's not that I don't want to go; I probably would more often. But I hate smoke; I hate the way it smells and makes me feel (like I'm running for my life; thanks to living in San Diego.) In my experience smokers can be considerate about it, but they can also be very rude. If I drink in front of you and you don't like drinking, you might have to put up with my behavior but my being drunk isn't going to affect your kidneys/ liver etc. When someone smokes around me; whether I want to or not, I'm smoking too. And I don't get the benefit of a filter, either. I think in an indoor environment it's just wrong to subject all other patrons to it who also are profitable and also want to be there and inconvenience them when the person who wants to smoke can make the extra effort to pursue it if they want it that badly by going outdoors.

** This also REALLY annoys me about pot smokers too... I hate going to concerts to enjoy the music and having to smell that the whole time I'm there.

ok, do you think that, if you are properly warned (Establishment advertised as a smoking establishment) and there are alternatives (Establishments that do not buy a theoretical smoking lisence and are entirely non smoking) or the establishment has a seperate ventilated non smoking area (As several Casinos do) that its fair to say that there should be non smoking across the board, despite the choice being present for both smokers and non?

No; I agreed with Tag about separate smoking areas being ok. However, in my experience, if there's smoke anywhere in the building it tends to pervade. Ideally, for my long-term health no smoking indoors is preferred.

Completely separate establishments is an interesting concept, here in San Diego there are many casinos on the Native American reservations we have. The big three that I grew up with have flourished and thrived and what's interesting is that the one that I visited the most often only has non-smoking sections, which are still open to the smoking areas; but the one that I visited most recently was not noticeably smoky, in fact I don't think there was any. (I honestly haven't done any research to see if it's actually smoke-free or not but the fact that it was absent is pretty compelling.) It does make a difference in the way you perceive a place too; now the smoke-free casino is my favorite and the other will probably not be visited any time soon. But I can see the other side saying that if they went to an establishment that didn't allow them to smoke and then one that did, they would probably frequent the smoking one over the non. So I guess separation might be a possible solution--

It doesn't always divide so neatly. Someone is always going to be unhappy; whether it's the smoker in the group of non-smokers that decide to go a smoke-free casino, or the non-smoker in the group of smokers attending a mandatory meeting with clients for work in a smoking establishment. My point is that sometimes in life you can't help where you are and protection for those times is ideal, though I do concede it isn't popular.

considering we are dealing with a choice, and private establishments, i think seperation is possible and maybe quite lucrative both for business and state.

check out a fully ventilated casino with sections for smoking and non. i think you will be suprised at both the air quality in the non smoking section and the traffic in the smoking section

Having lived in Hawaii for several years, I spent alot of time in Las Vegas, and personally, I'm torn on the issue of smoking in casinos.

While I do not want the government to ever "look out for my health" in the sense of restricting what I do, eat, smoke, etc, I do not smoke and hate the fact that at the end of a gaming session I'm in need of a shower from smelling like what everyone around me was smoking.

Personally, while I do not agree with the ban, and hope the trend does not continue on to banning fatty foods, fast cars, video games and other things that are "bad for you", the ban would make my personal time spent gaming more enjoyable.

Bars however, I believe that there was a stand up comic that said it best and forgive me if I get the quote wrong...

"You're at a bar, drinking poison, looking to have unprotected sex with a total stranger, second hand smoke is really the least of your concerns"
