Competition Sports Seats
So three weeks ago I put money down and have yet to see an order number generated. I'm being told that because I'm checking the Competition Sports Seat option, and its currently not ready, no order can be placed.
Has anyone else encountered this. Is everyone with a status # getting the regular seats? Thanks for any and all responces...

If you place a valid order, you get a order # immediately. If the competition seats can be ordered on the workbench, you should still be able to get an order #.
Does your dealer have allocation for a vette? |

Cisco is right. If your dealer has an allocation available to him at this time then he should be able to give you an order number with your deposit. Some items might be on constraint, like maybe the seats or a paint color. Options that are on constraint have NO effect on getting your order number. Items on constrain only effect when your car is set to go down the assembly line.

You're all forgetting that the competition seats are a late availability item. Meaning the system won't accept any orders yet that have them. I would expect your order would be good sometime this fall, 4th quarter. Same goes for any convertible orders.

Thank you all for your input...
PurpleRac3r, your comment jives exactly with what my dealer, who does have "had" four allocations is saying... So I'm guessing Everyone WITH an order # did not opt for the comp seats?

That is correct. Certainly keep in touch with your dealer, and keep an eye out here on the forum for any news regarding the competition seat availability. It could be just a few weeks, or many months before they are up for ordering, but I imagine someone will post here on Corvette7 as soon as the word gets out. Good luck!

When I ordered my Camaro, Crystal Red was NOT available because of late availability. My dealer was still able to give me an order number that day. The order was not accepted because of the constraint but the order number was still valid. When the paint came off of constraint, the dealer was able to place the order with the original order number given to me when I gave him the deposit. I used that order number to keep tabs on the build.

Sorry, Jedi is right, when I ordered my ZL1, the NAV system was on constraint but the order# was still valid and I was able to keep tabs on the build. I had a order # with dealer allocation that was used against the order.
If you don't have an order# from your dealer where they have burned an allocation, you don't have an order in the system and you will be queued with all the other delayed orders until the dealer has an allocation they can burn. You can walk into the dealer and order a vehicle via the workbench, the output of your order is a vehicle that goes into the system as a request, if the dealer doesn't have allocation to spend, you have an order in the dealers queue waiting for the dealer to get allocation for a vehicle. You need to go to your dealer and get a pie e of paper showing your order#, similar to this: If you don't have any documentation validating your order, you might want to consider another dealer. |

Was the color and/or the nav on the order sheet to be checked? I suspect such and I also suspect the comp seats are not or are greyed out, either way can not be checked off to submit the order.

The only issue we had laborsmith was with the seats. Which the magager says is preventing me from getting an order number. He says he chacks every am. Still not available.

That would mean the option can not be checked, and may not even be there to be checked. This is more normal than some would want to believe.
A few decades ago, the Preliminary Order (yes that is what they called the form, whether filled out before the start of production or at the end, same name) was two pages with a carbon paper in between (yes, I am old enough to call the hills brother) and all the options (with their 3 character RPOs, some things never change) were in columns and the dealer's salesperson would check mark each option as the customer desired. Today all that appears on a computer screen (monitor for the technical minded) but the salesperson now clicks a check mark for each option ordered. I did get a print out of one when I ordered my Camaro but have lost two of the four pages but overall it does electronically what used to be done by hand. This is part of the Order Work Bench program. Of course none of this is pertinent but when the question about how "late availability" came up I could not help remember how Chevy used to do it. To close, there is a difference between an option that is constrained and a option that is not available and you are experiencing the difference. These are the quirks that make following the process interesting for me. May not help you but I do enjoy the exceptions probably more than I should. Laborsmith |
