Taxes piss me off to the max! I just cannot believe what some states and cities are doing. From what I have seen in this city I live in is the officials have given their selves so many pay raises and now the city is saying it is in a crunch and needs to add a half cent tax. The city made the hotels here in town start collecting a "bed" tax and if you have family or whatever stay in one of those it is 14.50 percent on a dollar. Now one of our previous governors has started pushing for a one cent tax to be added to our already high state tax because he says we need it for teacher salaries. So if that happens and it passes and the city adds another half cent just the taxes here will be 11 percent on a dollar and if you stay in a hotel it will be 16 percent. This state has always taxed us to have a boat which was not that expensive but now they are taxing the motor which brings it way up on fees. [every year] My 2015 ZL1 was 2300 bucks for the tag and taxes on it then you still have to pay around 300 a year until it is ten years old then it is around 150 bucks a year. Now the insurance is another thing that has got expensive because the area I live in so many people who have bought new cars and then find out they cannot afford them so the insurance payment gets to rubbing against the car payment and they catch on fire. The insurance companies has to cover their losses so then they raise the premiums on everyone else. OK I am done for now! Sorry [it just, well you know].

Sounds like most on here have it good with the vehicle property tax. South Carolina is not terrible on taxes with the exception of vehicles. My pre-owned 2012 ZL1 was 300 in sales tax and 1150 in property tax. I was looking at a 2014 but the property tax was over $1300 per year. The amount creeps down over time based on the value of the vehicle but the table they use is based on retail pricing. I am currently at 3 vehicles so the tax bill every year is significant. I am inside the city limits which adds 40% to the county tax bill. Lot's of folks with high dollar vehicles have them registered in lower cost counties or even neighboring states when possible. For me it limits what I want to spend on cars and is just as much a factor as the purchase price.

Here in GA we used to have it, it sucked shelling out anywhere from 200 to 800 a year for a tag depending on what vehicle i had at the time. now we pay taxes up front when we purchase the car and from then on it's only twenty bucks a year. i almost shit a brick when i bought my wife a 2010 cobalt to drive back and forth to work and the tag was right at 700 dollars. i couldn't believe it, but at the same time i had a 2011 camaro that cost me two or three hundred a year to tag. i think i like the tavit system better than the old way though!

CO is outrageous! When we moved here from TX, I had to register my Goldwing... I about died when they handed me a $600+ bill! I asked her in a very calm voice, "You do know it's a motorcycle, right?". From $55 to $600+... amazing!
New cars are unreal!

Sucks OP. In my state I pay over $10K in property taxes for a house probably worth less than $200K. And 7% Sales tax, so $3,500 for my ZL1. But only once. And an income tax rate of like 6%. My real estate tax payment is larger than my mortgage. But no yearly car tax. Please don't let my state know such a tax exists. Anyone want to move to NJ?

It's INFURIATING
Our 13th Amendment rights have been gutted and we are forced to support GENEROUS Public Employee Pay and Pensions (esp misManagement) - most of us are involuntary servants to the excesses and thievery of Bureaucracy. http://transparentcalifornia.com/salaries/all/ I hope I didn't violate the prohibition on 'Politics' but this stuff really needs to be aired. That's absolutely pathetic... When I was stationed in California my truck came up for renewal and they classified it as a commercial truck, 2500HD Diesel, so no military waiver. They wanted about $600 so I re-registered it in Florida for $75... Phew...

Pay the tax once in PA. We didn't move to South Carolina because of PPT on cars. How new are the laws regarding PPT on cars in different states? I am sure they would love to pull that here, but the people in the state would go ape ****.

Agreed, that's why I'm staying in the PA/NJ area(even though taxes sucks in the northeast too). I'm 35 and single, thought about relocating, starting fresh in SC....but I started reading their tax laws and started laughing....this country is becoming a ****ing joke with taxes and we, as citizens, willingly take it up the ass with a big smile....
