The Springfield is a quality, reproduction of the old trapdoor carbine , with modern, high quality steel. That said; the trapdoor action is still quite weak. I would stick to the standard factory .45-70 loads which are loaded with these weaker actions in mind.

Do NOT try any of the Buffalo Bore or other higher pressure loads, loaded for modern Marlins, etc.

You own a neat piece of History. Enjoy it. I once owned a full rifle in .50-70 that was surprisingly accurate back as a kid in the late 1960's. I had to cast the #515141 lead slugs with a near hundred year old mold. Then loaded the five .50-70 cases that came with the rifle with black powder.

Haven't been able to go to the range yet, but so far it's pretty nice. Well built, comfortable to grip, trigger seems excellent, easily concealable. Ruger even threw in a pocket holster that works pretty well.

I wish they'd include another mag, but oh well.

A New York couple was horrified when a UPS delivery they thought was a Christmas present turned out to be something else: an assault rifle.

Instead of a toy plane they were buying for their friend’s son, they found a semi-automatic rifle, scope, stand, ammo clip and copies of an Arizona man’s driver’s license and concealed-weapons permit.

Seems like the author can't make up their minds and contradicts themselves in their own headline. I would hardly consider a bolt action .50 BMG Barret an 'Assault Rifle'.

Isn't .50cal illegal in NY anyway? UPS really fudged this one up.

I do not think this couple would, but could they keep it? I do not think any one on this thread would have mind for this to be delivered to them.

Take a look at the Glock 42.

I Range Officer some CCW/Intro to firearms, Classes at out Club. So I have seen quite a few pocket pistols in the hands of shooters. A few of the LCP's and even LCR's have had issues.

But the G-42's impressed me so much with their "out of the box" reliability, that I bought one for my own use.

You pay a bit more for the G-42 but it will work. And has 2 mags.

Typically local law enforcement frowns on you having a firearm you didn't legally acquire

No. Regardless of what state you are in, doing so would be breaking numerous federal laws.

Although I find it interesting that no one mentioned that they broke a federal law by opening a package that clearly wasn't addressed to them.

USPS is federal, UPS & FedEx are private, common carriers. I think the laws depend on the carrier.

Even with USPS though, if they said they accidentally opened it before they realized it wasn't theirs, then contacted USPS, they're not going to be charged with a crime. If they kept the weapon, then yeah, it's gonna get messy.

The person who had the package delivered to them is getting away with opening it, "honest mistake", especially if they immediately report it. (UPS package handler and then driver, '89 to '95)
