2016 2SS for 20k??
What's up everyone!
Extremely new to the Camaro world and have been familiarizing myself lately with the platform. I would like to know from more expirenced people about this Camaro I've found. It is a 2016 Camaro 2SS with 23k miles. It's fully loaded and fully optioned. The seller is moving and needing to sell urgently. He is only asking 20k for it. It does have a rebuilt title, hence the lower initial price but 20k sounds like a steal to me. It is super clean and he's sent me vids and pictures and it really looks great. Haven't seen in person just yet but I've been thinking about it. According to the carfax, it was wrecked at just 2k miles or so shortly after being purchased in 2016. I know at retail prices these are supposed to be amazing performance per dollar, so at 20k, the bang for buck is dang good. Curios to see if it would be worth it and hear what your guys opinion & thoughts are. |

Insurance paid out $14k for my 2016 1LT with 136k miles with prior total loss history, I think the biggest issue with salvage cars is finding a buyer that’s ok with the implications of salvage and if it’s got a rebuilt title now or not

I would have a qualified mechanic go over the whole car, front to rear and inside and out before pulling the trigger.

Some insurance companies will not insure rebuilt titles.I would also run a quote against the vin number with your insurance provider.

Hey Will-
I'm originally from W.Va. and have had some experience with rebuilt or salvage title cars and trucks. They can be a terrific bargain and totally dependable. It all depends who did the repair, their skill level, and you never pay more than 50% of value of the same or similar car in the current market. I bought a Nissan Sentra (rebuilt in KY. with a salvage title) that was basically half a 2000 and the other half a 2001 model for my youngest boy to take to college in 2003. He drove hell out of it for almost 10 years. I know of no other vehicle that had a tougher life. It never failed. I would see if you can trace back the title, (was it first, after repair, titled in another state?) If you can discern the car's roots so to speak, it will help you separate a pig from a poke. And as already stated- get a good mechanic give it a good look. And good luck! |

That's awesome man! Been to Utah once man and it was beautiful so Im not surprised you ended up out there lol. Yeah according to the carfax and it started out in North Carolina, New Jersey, Indiana, and now Ohio. It appears the first owner actually kept the vehicle and had it repaired after the wreck. It also shares this specifically about the total loss scenario.
Vehicle ran off road It hit a ditch Damage to left front Damage to right front Damage to right side Vehicle towed Vehicle not drivable Multiple airbags deployed Front and side airbags deployed Last edited by dwill2ss; 10-16-2023 at 07:28 AM. Reason: added a photo |

I would pass on it. Too many owners and a salvage title also.

Not in a million years for $20K.
Airbags deployed. Front damage on all sides. If you ever wanted to sell it, you won't get your $20K back. If you could get it $13-15K, maybe if it's been looked over by a mechanic. If you really shop around you can find one with a clean title for $25-30K. I know that's more money, but we're not talking $20 here. I'd much rather pay a little more for peace of mind, even if you wanna finance the difference. |

Car looks really good and we tend to "buy" with our eyes. Body shops can achieve miraculous results but not always mechanically sound. Report back on any mechanic's assessment and try to re-negotiate price if there is any wiggle room. As others have said, your resale value will be quite low when that time comes, and many dealers have a policy of not accepting salvage titles for any trade in. I once asked about trading in a rebuilt titled full size Chevy extended cab 4X4 (that ran great) and the salesman at a Toyota dealer (I ended buying a Tundra) got semi-irate! Like I was trying to rip him off- LOL. I told him up front it was rebuilt.

I have a family member that's been rebuilt a few Totaled vehicles when he retired. He currently has a EcoBoost f150, He's been driving for 6 years I think and it's been one of the most reliable vehicles he owned. I did some soldering on the airbag wiring of his latest project. Apparently I did it right because it's not throwing a code and it didn't blow up when we started it. If my daily got wrecked today and I needed something immediately, I'd probably just buy it for myself.
The thing is people can screw you over with any car whether it's rebuilt or not. There is a classic car dealer in Texas that has multiple complaints online of people that bought a car with a fresh interior and paint and after a few weeks started finding rust and all sorts of problems.
