Ok, back on topic.... I was doing some browsing around the Corvette forums to see if I can find any info about when the specs on the '08 Corvette will be revealed since it will have the LS3 in it... From what I have found, the new Corvette will be unveiled on Saturday April 28th at 1:30 pm at the National Corvette Museum. So in about 51 days we will have a lot more information pertaining to the possible powerplant in the new Camaro!
This also makes me very optimistic about the LS3 going into the new Camaro... I mean, if the vette will have it for a full year before the Camaro even has a chance to hit the dealers, then I don't think the Vette community will be too distraught. |

I'm obviously not a member of the Vette community, but is there really such resistance with the Camaro receiving the same powerplant as the Vette?
Sure the Camaro may end up with the same horsepower/torque ratings as the Vette, but the Vette is always lighter, better handling, and an overall better performing car. Did Vette owners really get upset when the 4th Gens had the Vette's LT1 and then the LS1, and later the GTO had the Vette's LS2? It seems like it is the standard operating procedure to drop a Vette power plant into the F-bodies.

With the older LS1 engines, they were rated at a lower HP than the Corvette LS1s even though they consistently dyno'ed at the same, and in a lot of cases more, horsepower than the Corvette, and it didn't really seem to effect the corvette sales at all. I think most people realize that the Corvette is engineered to a higher standard in terms of lighter weight materials and greater aerodynamics to justify the price difference. |

I don’t know why this topic keeps coming up. It has been stated more that once by many of GM’s “BIG WIGS” that no one at GM cares if the Camaro steps on the toes of the Corvette… In the past there have been many “PRODUCTION” vehicles that have out performed the Vette in many areas (Buick GN / GNX, Pontiac TA GTA, ZL1, COPO).

I found this on another forum posted by a member making an educated prediction about the LS3's power ratings... seems to be very logical and well thought out....
"There is a lot of talk about the new LS3 but GM hasn't announced any horsepower ratings. I figured I'd take a stab at predicting what it might be. Looking at the hp ratings of the recent LS motors, we have... LS1 -- 346 ci -- 350 hp -- 1.01 hp/ci LS6-I -- 346 ci -- 385 hp -- 1.11 hp/ci LS2 -- 364 ci -- 400 hp -- 1.10 hp/ci LS6-II -- 346 ci -- 405 hp -- 1.17 hp/ci LS7 -- 427 ci -- 505 hp -- 1.18 hp/ci LS3 -- 378 ci -- ??? The advances in technology are evident when you see that GM was able to take their 346 ci engine from 1.01 hp/ci to 1.11 hp/ci. This level became the norm for a "base" engine as the LS2 came out at 1.10 hp/ci. Conversely, we have the higher performance offerings of the LS6-II and the LS7 that reached 1.17 and 1.18 hp/ci, respectively. So, what makes sense for the LS3? I my opinion, if you consider the general advances in technology plus the few extra ci, then the hp/ci will be higher than 1.10 and 1.11 above. Also, if you consider that it is still a base engine, you would expect it to be less than the 1.17 and 1.18 hp/ci. An interpolation of the above results in 1.14 hp/ci which means 430 hp for the 378 ci LS3. 430 hp is my prediction" I know the topic has been beat to death, and the speculation is all over the place, but i just thought that his logic was interesting.... |

I was guessin between 400 and 450 for the Z/28 and between 450 and 500+ for SS.
Base V8 I would say 340-370 and V8 sport 370-400. Im guessin that they will have two V8 engines one for base and sport and another for Z/28 and SS. Perhaps even a third for SS, although that doesnt seem very cost efficient. Then again could be limited production SS. |

Well unless one of the two V-8 options they are offering out the door is gonna be the Z/28 they will have 4 different HP levels in the Camaro, and at least 2 engines if not 3. If they have 2 out the door and one of them isnt Z/28 im guessin one will be badged just Camaro, the other RS. Then they will come out with the Z/28 and SS later with different engine(s).

I'm still thinkin base V6
sport V6 running 320 hp V8 runnin 400-430 top o' the line V8 runnin up to 460-500. Two V6'ers and Two V8's...my prediction. It all comes back to the cost factor for GM...just wouldn't be cost effective to offer up to 6 engines.... |

I would say 1 V6 and 1 entry V8 with two versions of each, HP boosts from tuning. Then possibly 1 or 2 more for the Z/28 and SS.

They are using two completely different V6 motors? *slaps GM* Why dont they just use one and tune it?
