I always hated the saying mid life crisis. Wanting a car is the farthest thing from a "crisis". Sounds like a saying that came from jealousy...

I bought it as a retirement present to myself two yrs ago. I had new muscle cars in the 60s ( GTO,442) and I said God willing when I retire I'm going to get another one ...67 outside / 18 inside

Mid-life crisis? nah!!! Always wanted one. . . but life priorities took over. My wife quit working and stayed home to raise our son. (as planned) Fast forward 20yrs.-- Everything (was) paid for trucks, boat, 4whlrs, house. . . It was time to buy a car not really needed... but really wanted for a r e a l l y long time. We just happened to be in our mid-life years (55)-(51) when we could afford it. Wife went back to work, son is 2nd yr of college and we're enjoying a nice ride.

I never had a family, so I explored all the world's continents. Paid cash for Yelo Maro. Getting the travel bug - I've got a dangerous game rifle (CZ .375 H&H magnum) so I might go to Africa and drop a big black-death bull. I'd LOVE to take a leopard, but need a rich guy to buy the hide. It would pay for much of the 10 days in Africa.

I've always been into the muscle car aesthetic since I was a kid, though my favorite was always the Mustang. I started a new job in March of last year which ended up doubling my salary, so I could finally actually buy my own car for once (previous cars were a 94 Acura Legend and a 2000 Dodge Neon - both hand-me-downs.) I rewarded myself for the hard work I put in to get the new job. I also justified it by saying "well I will probably have kids in a few years, so it makes sense to take advantage of not yet having kids by getting an impractical car, since I will have more familial obligations in the future."
Another bonus is that if I buy one when I'm in my 20s, it won't be a surprise to anyone when I buy a Corvette or something equally awesome when I'm 40 and I can hopefully avoid the mid-life crisis statements |
