I owned a 71' Nova and 69' Camaro SS among a slew of older muscles cars. That's why these lights make me smile every time I see them. It reminds me of all those old cars taillights. I didn't get an SS this time but my next car will be a step up and I hope they continue the retro look until then. These lights definitely remind me of the 69' Camaro SS, even an early 70's Dodge Dart's taillights look like that. Times when a couple of 6 packs, 2 friends and you could rebuild the whole car in one weekend, no computers needed. It's why I'm a fan of these lights. But if you're not in your 40's you might not care. lol
I find it a fitting tribute to all those that constantly bought and owned Chevy's back in the day. |

When the gen 5 camaro came out to me there was no doubt it had styling cues from late 60's models.... Then I saw the rear tail lights and thought what is that? Well in 2014 they fixed it...

Was not a fan from all the pictures I saw. But when I actually saw it in person I really liked it.

A moderator and me had a little chat about this thread. I wasnt liking what was said about my 2014 SS and I should not have said anything about anyone's V6, it was wrong and I apologize. I will not be responding to anyone more comments about my 2014 Camaro.

I almost bought a 12, held off to see the 14 as I heard there was a refresh coming. I was at the GM tech center one day in early 13 and saw a new 14 they had just set out on display and the front grabbed me. Then I went to the rear and my first reactions was "Oh hell no!" I hated the tail lights at first. The started learning the similarity to so many previous generations of Camaro and where the inspiration came from. They slowly grew on me and I now love my 14 1LE.
If you look at it the front of the gen 5 is supposed to resemble a gen 1. However, Gen 1 cars never had 4 individual lamps, they all had a bar tail light. The 4 individuals were on early Gen 2 Camaro's. So now I feel my 2014 more closely gets it's look from the gen 1. Also, the way the bars wrap around onto the rear quarter is similar to my 82 Z28. I still like the 4 light look of the 10-13...but now prefer the bars. Just my opinion. |

I'm sticking with my 2011 until I see what the 6th gen is all about. Sorry, but I really dislike what they did to the 14/15 Camaro.

I like the 2014 too. I usually buy a brand new car every few years because I have a long commute. And I want something dependable on the road. I always loved camaro's but never had one. Then the camaro came back in 2009, loved it right away, but the timing was never right. Then this year I needed a new car and I saw the refresh... Loved it! And since I have a Z06 and a BMW M already it was hard to convince my significant other that I needed a ZL1 too . So I got the LT/RS, all the looks with less expense, and the best thing about the camaro, either v6 or 8, it's affordable to all! but I do know one model we can all agree upon... One day when I go to the dealership to change my oil, I may just trade in my LT for this bad boy. I will not be tempted... I will not be tempted.
(Couldn't resist adding my 14, how can you not like that innocent face) |
