Z51 and 6 speed auto?
Trying to find out if the Z51 C7's will be available with the 6 speed paddle shift tranny. I left the knee for my clutch leg in Vietnam and have to live with the "Euro" tranny Trend of "floppy paddles" as the guys on Top Gear used to call them. I currently drive a 2012 Camaro ZL1 with the 6 speed auto transmission and it sure handles the advertized 580 BHP from the LSA 6.2 liter V-8 with no problems. The auto tranny is .1 second faster for 0-60 and 1/4 mile E.T.'s. than the manual 6 speed. Anyway, if anyone up the line in or out of the C7 Covette food chain can answer this, it will help me decide if I move over to a new Vette or stay with the slightly portly, Triple Black, Bad Boy ZL1.

They will if they follow the C6 which had it available, but in my opinion I believe the 8-speed automatic transmission being developed will be available for the 2015 model year.
Thanks for your service, I'm currently AD USAF. |

Sir it is an honor to have you here. There is still a bit of confusion regarding the transmission in this car. Whether the current 6 speed automatic will remain or be updated to a 8 speed automatic. Either will be great. |

Major Boyd - thanks for your service!
I'm an automatic guy too - I'm a drag racer and autos are faster. Echoing what C7_Z51 said - I too believe the 8-speed auto is in the pipeline, but don't know when it will be available.

GM is still developing the 8 speed automatic and purely a guess on my part with NO inside information but it should be available by 2017 model year. Just tossing a possible alternative out there.

We were told at the launch event that they were sticking with the current 6spd for now and that they are looking at 'possible alternatives' for the future and no timetable was mentioned. They said that they want to make sure they get the right one for the car.

Sorry for your loss in Vietnam but thanks for your sacrifice.
I believe the auto to be available with Z51. This is the only information I've found that indicates that Z51 is available and the A6 auto tranny is available. Does not limit the Z51 to only manual tranny: |

Thank you for your service Boyd. In a video interview with Tadge Juechter I heard a brief reference to the automatic and something very interesting that I too would like to hear more about. He had said that there will be adjustments you can make to how the transmission shifts through the dash screens. How cool would that be to have an aggressive shift for when you are sport driving and a more mild one for just cruising. If this is the path they are taking I will be leaning very heavily toward the automatic.
