The only thing that I am upset about buying a ZL1 is that I didn't get a 12. They don't have the hill assist. I truly hate that on the car. Hopefully there will be something out soon that will eliminate it than I will have no regrets.

Glad to hear that! I started this thread during the height of the whiney "ZL1 doesn't perform as it should" period. I knew that there were wayyyyyyy more individuals pleased with the car and wanted everyone to hear from them. It worked!

Overall I am very happy/satisfied with my 2013 ZL1 vert.
Naturally, I wish it had around 650 factory HP instead of 580 HP

I've loved my car from day one but love it even more since adding a few ponies. When you figure driveline loss of 16% my car is at 670hp at the engine it made 580hp at the rear wheels.

Love my ZL1 and so does my wife, what a great car. The only other vehicle that would put a grin on my face was when I purchased my Buick
1987 Grand National. Wish I kept that car oh well, the Zl1 will be a keeper for a long time coming.

Love my ZL1. No regrets at all. Installed the Roto Fab CAI and it improved the sound and performance. But it really didnt need it.

The ZL1 is the best "total package" performance value, period. The Z/28 does not change that. I have said it before and I will say it again. The Z/28 is STRIPPED to be 300lbs lighter, not engineered to be 300lbs lighter. It has more money in breaks and rubber than the motor. Does that sound crazy to anybody but me?? I can get more power out of the motor that comes with the ZL1 than the LS7 because the LS7 has limitations in modding it much beyond the way it is put in the car from GM. I know this is sacrilegious to say with so many people loving the LS7 on this site but I do not understand the fascination with the LS7. If you want 427 cubic inches, getting that out of a small block just pushes the limits of that block too much for my taste. The fact that the Z/28 came out with such a narrow focus (I UNDERSTNAD THE HERITAGE OF THE CAR) actually disappointed me but also made me even happier I had my ZL1.

I really enjoy my ZL1. Response to mkorgan: I've owned both the LSA (ZL1) and the LS7 (Z06), unfortunately for ZL1 fans, I must side with the LS7- a far better powerplant!

Here's a link to some in-depth look at the 427 and its beginning with the ZL1 motor in '69 up to being utilized in the Corvette Racing team and with the Z06's.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292539

A quick excerpt:

The 427 is an amazing piece of work: fat torque curve, 500-hp, normally-aspirated, at 6300-RPM and a 7100 rev limit. There's really cool stuff in that engine–titanium rods and intake valves, 11.0:1 compression, CNC-machined heads and a 7000-RPM valvetrain. The LS7's specific output (power÷displacement) is 1.18 and its power density (power÷weight) is 1.12. At this writing, seven years after the engine debuted in 2006, both are high marks for a normally-aspirated, production V8 made in the Western Hemisphere. Such performance makes for a mystique about that unboosted, stump-pulling, high-revving V8 which the supercharged 6.2 in the ZL1 lacks. So–while I appreciate the LSA, to me; LS7's case is more compelling.

The LS7 is a great motor but has well documented valve guide issues in the C6 ZO6. Hopefully GM addressed that in the Z/28. With that said; it's hard to beat the pure adrenaline rush of a n/a high revving motor that screams to a 7000 rpm redline.

The 427 in the 69 is irrelavent. That was a big block, I have one in my 69 Camaro I currently own (iron block, not aluminum). The LS7 is a small block stretched to it absolute limits. The bore and stroke on the LS7 combined with the high volume CC heads do deliver 427 cubic inches but the limits they have go to in a small black configuration compromise the overall package. Just my opinion and the primary reason I would want to keep my ZL1 over the current Z/28. Now if you want to talk LS9, now I have a problem .

I would too, the GEN 1 BB 427 that is. I did not mean to cause division here amongst Camaro brethren, just giving my reason for being REALLY happy I have the ZL1 even with the Z/28 amazing promised performance. As I have also said, there has never been a better time to be a Camaro fan.
