Quick synopsis on the exhaust valves. Both the standard and NPP exhaust systems have valves in front of the mufflers to control the V4 mode sound (most call these the AFM valves). The NPP exhaust has an additional set in the outer rear tailpipes (most call these the NPP valves).

When in V4 mode, the AFM valves close and the exhaust will get quiet - even if the NPP valves are programmed open or pulling fuse #41.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, the A6 will go into V4 mode in all modes EXCEPT when in manual shift. So the decrease in NPP sound with the A6 happens all the time due to V4 mode.

The Engine Sound Management setting OFF controls only the behavior of the NPP valves. And even OFF there are instances when the NPP valves close under 1700RPM. Pulling fuse #41 does keep the NPP valves open 100% of the time, but you lose the ability to 'go quiet' from the settings and V4 mode still goes quiet.

The A6 folks have no ability to prevent V4 mode in regular driving other than manual shifting or a tune to delete it. So there's no ability to have 'loud all the time'.

And pulling the fuse that controls the AFM valves results in a CEL and an awful V4 sound.

if this really bothers you, this kills AFM in all automatic modes:

I have owned one for my camaro and it works flawlessly...invisible to warranty....

Thanks Glen e. Has anyone installed the v8 Ranger AFM disable device on a 2014, C7 Stingray? I am very interested, but want to make very sure it will not affect anything else and will not void the warranty. Comments welcome.
