new manual trans

Question, I test drove a 2011 SS and the manual trans without a short throw felt sloppy. Does the 2012 SS and ZL1 have a different trans than the 2011?

The shifter or the trans felt sloppy? If you just mean the shifter, that's easy enough to change.

I'm almost positive it has the same trans but an upgraded version to handle the extra power. It also has a short throw sifter.

Both the MG9 transmission and the short throw shifter in the ZL1 are different from the SS.

The short-throw on the SS is derived from a Hurst unit. ZL1 uses its own design.

MG9 is the RPO for the ZL1's flavor of TR-6060.

Any input on how much better the ZL1 trans is?
It's not really a new transmission, but a beefed-up version of the same unit in the SS, with different gear ratios, and a new shifter.

I think it is a dual disc clutch also vs a single in the SS model.

You're right. I've always thought of the clutch and transmission as two separate components, so I forgot about that "little" detail.

It should be a transmission that you can beat to hell and back. The TR6060 is pretty strong in stock form already.

TREMEC (TR6060) 6-Speed Manual
The standard transmission for ZL1 comes in the form of the latest
TREMEC (TR6060) 6-speed manual with a revised short-throw
shifter. The new shifter has a more aggressive motion ratio and
incorporates a revised shift knob. The shape of the shift knob
is designed to be more performance oriented in the driver’s
hand, while the shorter throws result in a more direct feeling of
connection with the car for spirited driving. The TREMEC provides
smooth transfer of the engine’s exceptional power and torque. In
fact, it incorporates various upgrades and a 30% increase in torque
capacity.

This is ALL fantastic news since I hated the shifter in my '05 Vette (1st year of C6 design). I upgraded it to a B&M shifter but it still didn't feel that great. I love manual tranny sports cars so I'm hoping the ZL1 doesn't disappoint me
