2012 Indy Pace Car a ZL1...?
What are the chances? ...and if so, there be a limited edition like 2010 and 2011? I'm really on the fence about going ZL1 and this would definitely put me over the top... The timing would be right, but with the restricted numbers I doubt they would produce replicas in 2012.
Fingers crossed on this one... |

I think chances are very good, look at all the other Camaros that have paced the race.

Kind of what I was thinkin... Sure would be nice if Adam Barry "Atom" from GM came in here and gave us some food for thought.
Last year they announced it at Barrett Jackson on January 20th. Maybe the production limits put on 2012 ZL1's were due to Indy wanting some... |

50/50. I would guess it will be a Corvette or ZL1 Camaro. Both would probably use 50 Camaro SS Convertibles as Festival cars.

I was thinking this to myself the other day, and what a sweet idea you just shared with us! Just think of all the anti pace car, smack talkers. It would shut them up in an instant!

I was wondering about that for this year, but too early of course and they hadn't used the new 'vert yet. There has to be some reason they are running around with the Speedway logo on the door. The Speedway has been known to be rather strict with copyright/logo infringements so I would think they OK'd Chevrolet putting that on there. Got to wonder the motivation for allowing it.

That is the centennial era logo from 2009-2011... so not what would be used if the ZL1 were to pace the field in 2012. I think with all of the hype surrounding this car, Chevys recent history with pace cars, and the fact that Chevrolet powered cars will run in the 500 this year odds are good that te ZL1 will pace the field.
I do think the fact that a Camaro has been the pace car for the last 3 years takes away from the feeling that being the pace car is something special. I think the '67, '69, '82, and '93 cars have more of a meaning to me than the recent cars just because it was a rarer event back then to be honored with the title. That said, the ZL1 sure deserves the spot and I'd be interested what they might do for a limited pace car replica run. |

My bet is on...
Either ZL1 or a 45th Anniversary.
