Clunking sound when stopping on Manual trans vert

Hey all

I asked this question a while ago, but I wanted to see if anyone else had any other comments.

Basically, I have a 11 2SS/RS Vert; Manual trans. When I am slowing to a stop, I depress the clutch and most times (I think depending on the rpms) I get a clunking sound as soon as I press the clutch.

Some on the boards have said this is "drivetrain slack"......I took it to the dealer for it's first oil change and had them look at it and the mech said it was "normal".......and he also printed out a bulletin 03-07-29-004G "Manual Transmission Operating Characteristics"......but that really didn't help me out.

Anyone have anything to add or say?

Thanks alot

Ross

I have the V8 with a manual transmission and I don't get a clunk when I press the clutch.

Sent an email to the service manager detailing this issue. He just called me back (incidentally, that's why I chose this dealer -- not so much for the sales department but for the service dept. They're highly regarded)

I explained to him that nobody has had this issue -- and if they had, believe me it'd be on these boards big time. He explained that they are trying to find a 11 with manual trans and a V8 to check (I assume before they ask me to drive down to them to show them myself) and see if they can reproduce it there.

Said he'd call me back, which I believe. I said to him that I've had many many GM cars since I began driving, and I've gone through the "we don't hear it" or "we can't reproduce the sound you're hearing" thing many times before. I know this is not a normal sound for this type of beast.

So, we'll see.

I have an 11 Vert with the LS3/M6, and yes I do hear the 'clunk' after pressing the clutch in once in a great while and it does sound like drivetrain slack.

Let me ask you this -- how can I stop hearing it -- how do I operate it so as not to hear it? I can actually reproduce the sound every time if I want to, but with the way I drive the car, it's always there.

Same here

You are not crazy. Be curious to hear what they say it is.

It's drivetrain slack and is completely normal. My car does it all the time.
The only way to drive without hearing it is to push the clutch in REALLY slow and when there is no load on the drivetrain. But honestly it is like saying you don't like it when your car goes vroom! You can drive it in such a way that it doesn't go vroom!, but it won't be very enjoyable.

If that's what they find it is (I'm not saying you are wrong, mind you), I'd be interested as to why I am the first one they heard it from. But, I will definitely try your workaround. The sound is just horrible, though!

Funny you posted this reply -- I'm literally just in the middle of reading your post about the vert clearance net "fix". Need to try it!

I get this also, to not hear it, never shift under load and be very smooth with the clutch. That being said, I can't get up the drive and into my Garage without doing this once or twice.

Thanks to everyone -- I really appreciate these forums. I am going to try this when I leave work. Thanks again!

I get this too--especially in 1st at slower speeds when I push in the clutch. Like 5mph and slower.
