Question on the brake system

I looked thru all the posts in this section of the forum but did not see anything answering the big question I have about the brakes.

I know we have a carbon ceramic rotor. As a machinist I run a insert that is made of a type of carbon ceramic to cut Inconel parts. They run great but have a tendency to shatter if they come into contact with coolant (read as any liquid) when hot. I was wondering since I daily my car if I need to avoid heating the breaks too much in wet conditions for the same reason?

I really don't know much about cars, especially cars as capable as the Z. It is a steep learning curve.

One of the "myths" concerning carbon ceramic rotors and water. The biggest issue is actually getting enough heat into the rotor to stop the car when it is raining.

I just wanted to make sure. I don't know how many tool holders or face mills we have destroyed by a guy coming back from break and starting his machine up and turning on the coolant out of habit.

I had noticed my breaks definitely don't work as well when it was wet. Been raining here every day or two since I bought the car. Still managed 500 miles and 4 tanks of gas thru it though. I swear I have given every guy and almost all the ladies in the plant a ride. Driving in steel toe boots is a hassle. Keep a pair of street shoes in the trunk now.

Here goes another question. How can you tell if the brakes were burnished or not. I got the car with 1300 miles on it. Was reading thru the manuals and saw the procedure but don't know if it was done or not. Will it hurt if I run thru it again just to be sure?

Look for a white residue on the pad...at 1300 miles you should do a few abrupt stops from 60 mph and see how well it stops. At 500 miles from a long commute from a non-local dealership, I would say my brakes sucked. The awesomeness of carbon ceramics doesn't occur until some pad material is burnished into the rotor and the pads are degassed.
