This is all assuming the cop knows you have firearms in the trunk and also knows the rear seat folds down. I don't think you'll have problems.

on a practical level, it's entirely possible to fabricate something similar to the old toolbox locks that used a bar, which would lock your backseat with a padlock, from inside the trunk


Or...just put your firearms in a case and lock them when in the trunk, providing that satisfies NJ law.

Only time I'm nervous is when I'm transporting a body in the trunk from point A to point B. Weapons are always in hands reach!
