I can see what you mean about the base model but I specifically said SS in my original post as I wouldn’t shop for anything less. Still think the base 16-18 looks a lot like the 14/15 Camaro, which is still a good looking car. Front fascia and headlights, while different are very similar. The taillights which I like clear/smoked look like an evolution of the 14/15 tail lights (which I thought were hideous) Below is the car and driver article that echos my sentiment about the styling not changing.

2019+ Front - I like the grills, aluminum insert, headlights and hood bulge better. The side vents not so much

2016+ Front - I like the fog lights and the middle bumper creases better. the chrome trim is not bad either

2019+ Rear - The tail lights are pretty awesome and a big reason I bought a 23

To each as his own. I like the taillights of the 2019 and on.

Agreed. You can clearly see the similarities, both front and rear when you compare the 14-15 SS, and 16-18 SS. It was an evolution, and I thought it was a good one at that. Still bummed I missed out on a Z/28.

Now the base model 19 and up look pretty unique and I don't care for them at all.

If I could have my ideal SS 1LE exterior it would be:
Tail:19+,
Hood/vent:19+
Front bumper facia: 16-18 (I just love those diagonals coming down from the bumper)
Front spoiler:20+

I wonder how much bodywork would be required to make that combo work for the front.

The 2020+ imho is the necessary evolution I feel the Camaro needed to go forward.

Human beings HATE change. I believe that’s the biggest reason a lot of 16-18 guys don’t like the 2020+. I too was one of them but eventually the 2020+ grew on me and became my favorite front end on a modern camaro (the SS’s at least).

When the then “New” mustang came out in 2015 I HATED that it deviated away from the retro looks. 5 years later I was shopping for one (ended up with a 2016 Camaro 1SS instead). We are creatures of habit and do not like change. Saw one car magazine rag on the new s650 Mustang for not changing much aesthetically.
You're making a fair point, but there would be so much to expand on why people resist (not "hate" per se) change, I'm afraid this forum is not the right venue for that.

As to the Camaro, my conscious and many others' subconscious problem with the midcycle refresh is that the changes are neither here nor there. If the 2016-2018 look was deemed too retro to sell well enough, which is plausible if we look at sales numbers, one needs to redesign the entire body for consistency, otherwise you create esthetic discomfort that never goes away due to the tension between the original and the new elements that stem from a different style, yet got forced together. (To add insult to injury, anyone can tell that they were going after cheap, low hanging Honda and Dodge fruit with the front bumpers and didn't try to come up with something original.)

Some people simply don't see or care about this visual discrepancy, others (like me) are very sensitive to it and will never compromise to the degree required to tolerate the 2019 front/rear look.

Again, I get what GM were trying to do, but they half-assed the job and it shows. By the way, I'm not hopelessly devoted to the more angular oldschool look; for example, I love McLaren's body designs, they are sleek, modern---and, best of all, 100% consistent.

Maverick, looks great. BTW, are you running spacers on those wheels? If so, what size and brand did you go with?

Amen. To each his own. Obviously there are two factions here. The ones that like the 2016-18s and the ones that prefer the refreshed look. As I said previously the divide seems mostly along what people have. Which is to he expected.

I personally couldn't care less why GM made the changes. The changes were made. It happens.

I'm like you I definitely prefer the refreshed taillights.

I don't agree it's simply "what people have". There are cars I can't justify just due to being so ugly, like M4/M3s, especially the M4. Don't want or care for it. Same with a 996. What came before and after was better. Sometimes they hit the mark and then they just keep missing it thereafter. I think my stinger is up there with beautiful sedans, but I don't think it's number one. I like the Panamera more. I think the Audi A/S5 sportback is beautiful, possibly about the same. The current BMW 4 series grand coupe and audi 7? Nope, don't like those at all. Don't care if they are more expensive or not. Same with the Mercedes "CL" cars, don't care for those either.
