I only use soap and water on my rims. If it is only one rim then I would think it is a defect in the rim paint.

Wow that sucks, I hope they actually replace it as they should. If it was all four wheels they should be suspicious.. but just one? Which I guess someone could have tried a new cleaner on just one wheel.. but that doesn't sound to be the case. Not like they're out the money anyways they'll just send it back and get reimbursed I would assume. Really sucks OP.

That sucks....I know another member used a tire dressing by mistake instead of wheel cleaner then wheel cleaner over top of the tire dressing and it peeled the clear off, looked like yours.

I agree with the others above that say this is a chemical that has been on the wheel. From all the splatter in the small spots it almost looks like you ran over something that exploded like an aerosol and it put it all over the wheel… My guess is this is not a manufacturer defect.....
All these painted GM wheels Need to be powder coated long term anyway, I'd get em done.....

When I noticed it I only had about 1500 miles. I have no idea what the cause is but its just one rim, the other three are fine and all I use to clean them is soap and water. GM is now trying to say its the soap.

Well all I have ever used is soap and water. GM is now saying that its the soap but funny thing is its only the one rim. And I wash them at least once a week because the brake bust is ridiculous. The other three are good. I'm about to give in and buy a new rim cause its pissing me off everyday I look at it.

What type of product are you using to wash your wheels? That seems like the issue.

Two things-
First, why two threads? Second, I just noticed the corrosion on the rotor hat. That is quite a lot of corrosion for such a low mileage car and appears abnormal. Any pictures of the other wheels/rotor hats? |

Bringing up an old thread.
I took mine to the dealer close to a month ago for this issue - looks like my rear wheels are starting to show the primer through the black paint. Dont remember the miles on it but it only has 3800 miles on it today so it wasnt much. Service manager hadnt seen it before BUT said another camaro had come it that same day with the very same issue. He sent it up to Chevy and they had a region guy come out and look at it on Nov 16th. I was there when he looked at it and told him that there were reports of this issue here and that I had read that Vette owners were seeing it as well. He and the service manager discussed it and the service manager told me he would let me know what they decided. I havent heard anything back, but I figured Thanksgiving week was down for many corporate folks. I hope to hear something this week. It surprised me how quickly they got worse in the couple of weeks between when I first took it in and when the region guy looked at it. At first it was just visible on a couple of spokes - two weeks later I could see it on all the spokes and some of the areas between them. I have never used chemicals on it other than car wash soap or rinseless soap - heck the car has never even been driven in the rain. I heard the two of them talking about it maybe being the brake dust, but my front wheels look great. Anyone else talking the Chevy about this right now? |

Hum...no issues yet?
I have 5100 on my SS and no signs for discoloration..yet! However, this thread is great for quality awareness. Regardless, I have been sticking to the following approach
