Beauty’s Story a.k.a Beauty & Beast

I guess you have to go back to 2010 to begin this story. I was stuck driving my husband’s Ford pickup for a week while he was up in the mountains with his buddy playing golf and driving my SUV. Now my SUV is nothing special but at least it does not shake you to death when you are going over 55 MPH, has seat belts that don’t periodically decide not to let you out and has XM radio.

Three days into his trip I called and threatened to trade the truck on a new Chevy Traverse while he was gone. He says to wait, he has an idea. Day four rolls around and I’ve had it, the truck has to go. This is where he says “why don’t we consider trading on a new Camaro”. HMMMMMM

By the time he gets back from the trip I’ve gone on to the Chevrolet site and built a 2010 2SS/RS with all the options I thought we would both want. The only trouble was that I fell in love with Inferno Orange and he always told me he would never drive an orange car. Well, much to my delight he had seen an orange Camaro on his trip and did in fact like the color. We were at the dealer within 7 days to order our 2010.

In October 2010 our car has arrived at the dealer. Now, remember when there were no Camaro’s on any dealer lots? Neither of us had driven one yet! My first drive was leaving the dealer lot. About 10 minutes into the trip my husband says “well, what do you think?”. I turned my head and said “this car is a beast” Ah! The car has a name!

Fast forward to 2011, I had seen pictures of the convertible but really was not enthusiastic. First one I saw in person was black with a tan top and the top was up, still not impressed. I’m at the dealer to inquire about the new Volt and low and behold…there is a Jewel red convertible with the top down. Hmmm, I like it, but not enough to pull the trigger.

Enter F-Body Gathering in Atlanta (beware, you can get in big trouble at this event!) ha ha. Driving up with our Camaro club there is a member with a Jewel red convertible that I spend a good amount of time driving behind. Conversation on the way (6 hours of driving) was something like…
me “I like the convertible” David “maybe you should think about buying one” me “maybe black since I won’t be driving it every day” David “black with orange would look pretty awesome” me “mirror image of your car, how cool” David “you can call her Beauty” me “Beauty and Beast OMG!”.

Anyway by the time we were in Atlanta I was almost convinced. Then enter Angela (you know who you are)! I’m explaining the idea to her and she says “like mine over there” I turn around and there is a 2011 2SS/RS convertible black with orange stripes and orange interior. That was it!

Beauty was ordered on 5/31/11, the day after we got back from Atlanta. Built 7/28/11 and arrived home on 8/18/11. I’ve taken some pictures but need to get out when the weather is good and take pictures of both cars together and some of Beauty with her top down.

Exhaust done today...Muffler delete. Sounds amazing. Looking foward to traveling to the other coast of FL this weekend with the top down to see what she sounds like while driving.

I have not had any time to get the two cars out together often. In March we'll be taking both to the Sunshine State Camaro Rally and I'm hoping to get some good shots there. Adding mods little by little to make them unique. I have a new license plate on Beauty now and it matches Beast's. Once I get home and get back to the garage I can get more. Currently "Beast SS" and "Beuty SS".
