Airplanes don't count unless you're flying them.
My best was very much above the speed limit. I definitely didn't have appropriate brakes or tires for that speed. Speed limiters are a real thing for safety people. If you are going to push the limits you really need to do it right. I literally had no brake ability for over half a mile. definitely not something you want |

Fast, Real Fast
183 legally on the German Autobahn in my highly bolted on 2002 C5 Corvette. It had more in it, but the particular authobahn I was on (Munich to Berchtesgaden) was not the best for going really fast...bumpy and too many mild curves. Beat an AMG Mercedes, though. Hooahhhh!

140 in my Gen 5. With more road I think I might have gotten 160.
100 in my '70 Chevelle back in the 70's. She felt like she was coming apart.

164 mph in my 2012 Boxster S Black Edition on the Autobahn, at night, with a good deal more to go, I'd say. Had to slow for cars ahead.

Kinda surprising so many people haven't really been that fast. I don't tend to drive TOO fast, but when the opportunity presents itself to do so safely, why not? Heck, I (may have, allegedly, never happened, was in Mexico, etc.) broken 110mph on a test drive
Fastest on 2 wheels, 185mph indicated, 1991 GSX-R 1100 Fastest on 4 wheels, 178mph estimated (by RPM/gear/tire), 1998 Formula |

"Safely" is on a track or at closed-road events like the Silver State and the Texas Mile. For those of us not living in the same time zone as those events, it's really hard to run up big numbers when the straight portions that are available, are less than half a mile long.

I thought they said this car was limited from the factory at 165mph??? Guess they were wrong. I just hit 169mph tonight before I had to let off with some cars up ahead.
1) 187mph - 2007 Z51 Vette, had to let off, really wanted to top 190 2) 172mph - 2005 Kawasaki 636 (indicated) 3) 169mph - 2016 Camaro 2SS A8 I don't remember the exact speeds over the years but I've been 150+ in many other cars. -2003 Dodge SRT-4 (160's) -2005 GTO (160's) -2003 Saab 9-3 (150's) -1987 Mustang Convertible (150's??) speedo went to 140mph and I buried it past that for a little while with the top down. Pretty much every car I drive gets taken to the limit so there's been too many 120-140's to even think about. I got to 118 in my 2013 Cruze 1.4turbo but that took a long time.
